Two bullion vans have been impounded by the police in Lagos for moving cash without security escorts.
The bullion vans which were loaded with money belonging to commercial banks, were reportedly impounded by Area Commander, ACP Gbolahan Olugbemi for violating approved standard species escort procedure which include an escort vehicle in front and at the back with minimum of four mobile policemen in each vehicle.
This came after Lagos Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu counselled officials of banks and cash-in-transit (CIT) to always observe standing operating procedure to prevent security breaches.
In another report, in what has been described as “a show off”, a robbery gang attacked a bullion van in Lagos and reportedly doled out parts of their loot during their escape to passers-by.
A source who made the revelation to newsmen said the magnanimity of the criminals was not to clear a gridlock but “a show-off”.
