Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria’s vice president has stated that Ghana’s presidential election should be an eye-opener for Nigeria.
This statement was made known by the former president, Atiku while congratulating President Nana Akufo-Addo on his reelection via a tweet on Thursday.
Atiku said Nigeria should learn from the “smooth conduct” of the just-concluded polls in Ghana.
After the 2019 polls in Nigeria, Atiku, who contested the presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had gone to the tribunal to challenge the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, alleging electoral malpractices in the exercise.
“Congratulations to President @NAkufoAddo on his reelection. The smooth conduct of the Ghana elections should be an eye-opener to our nation,” Atiku tweeted.
“We must undertake far-reaching electoral reforms that address the shortcomings of our previous experiences and strengthens our electoral process.”

Akufo-Addo was declared winner of the 2020 election on Wednesday.
He had also claimed that the election results showed that he had defeated the incumbent president.
Though the December 7 election was adjudged “largely peaceful” by independent observers, at least five people were killed in the violence that broke out during the polls.
