Following the disappearance of Constable Emmanuel Gene, a policeman attached to Ijebu-Igbo police division, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has given leaders of Aba Tuntun community 48 hours ultimatum to produce the cop.

Gene, an indigene of Tube in Ipokia Local Government area of Ogun was declared missing after a raid on some suspected hoodlums in Aba Tuntun.

The Baale of Aba Tuntun had earlier petitioned the DPO of Ijebu-Igbo police station, informing him of how some suspected hoodlums were terrorising members of his with the firearms in their possession.

But, when the police team raided the community on December 3, the villagers were said to have waylaid them and in the process abducted five cops.

According to the Ogun state command spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, four of the abducted officers have been rescued, but Gene is yet to be found.

The family of the missing policeman had cried out over the issue, accusing the DPO, Kazeem Solatan of negligence.

However, at a fact-finding meeting with leaders of Aba Tuntun in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Ajogun threatened a showdown with members of the community should they fail to produce the missing officer within 48 hours, either dead or alive.

Ajogun, who was flanked by the State Commissioner for Forestry, Tunji Akinosi, stressed that the community must produce Gene or face the consequences.

The CP said the command did not want any bloodshed in the community, telling them not to allow the police to ‘engage’ them.

Ajogun noted that the police may not be able to keep peace at bay if the missing cop is not produced dead or alive.

“I don’t want to set the community ablaze because in the end, you will all run away.

“So, dead or alive, let me see my constable,” the CP said emphatically.

Speaking, the Forestry Commissioner, Akinosi, urged the leaders to do the needful by releasing the cop.

According to him, the state government could not watch while the community engages security operatives in a bloody attack.
