The headquarters town of Geidam local government area (LGA) of Yobe state, Geidam has been attacked by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
According to sources, the insurgents had been around the community since 2pm on Wednesday, and started shooting at about 6pm.
Sources further revealed that many houses were set ablaze as residents ran into the bush.
The insurgents were still shooting as of 8pm eventhough troops from the Nigerian army and the air force arrived the area, the source added.
Geidam is about 180 kilometres from Damaturu, the Yobe capital.
In the past months, the insurgents have launched series of attacks on Yobe and Borno communities.
Sagir Musa, army’s spokesperson, did not immediately respond to a message seeking development on the attack.
