Guns and 592 rounds of ammunition have been recovered by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the army in a sting operation in Ebonyi state.
WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the arms were recovered at Effium, a town in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi.
AK-47s, a G3 rifle, a pump action and a general-purpose machine gun (GPMG) were among the firearms recovered in the operation.
The spokesperson of the Department of State Services, Peter Afunanya stated that some suspects were arrested and they would be arraigned in court soon, adding that the service is committed to maintaining the country’s internal security.
It was also learnt that four people were arrested in the course of the operation.
Some residents of Effium who did not want to be identified said a shrine which served as a “protective shield” for armed groups was raided during the operation.
The suspects are said to be involved in the Ezza-Effium crisis which has lasted for months without abating.
There are allegations that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are part of those fuelling the crisis.
