Cult attacks: Two people killed as residents of Ilesa continue to live in fear

Police and other security agencies helpless

Tension in Ilesa metropolis as locals continue to live in fear and despair as a result of cult attacks and recent killings in the town.

A cult leader known only as Segun was shot and killed by unidentified cult members during a conflict between the Eiye and KKK cults on Wednesday outside the VALU MALL in Jlesa’s Okesa neighborhood.

According to information obtained within Nigeria, the shoot-out between the two cult groups began on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. and lasted for more than an hour.

Following the shootings and fatality on Wednesday night, hundreds of store owners shuttered their doors early out of concern for retaliatory attacks by the victim’s cult, particularly in Bolunduro, Irojo, and Okesa, among other places.

Just 48 hours after Segun was killed, a group of armed men on Friday night shot and killed another man at Ilerin Road in Osun Ankara, Ilesa, going only by the name Amuda.

As of 7:30 p.m. on Friday, this reporter walked around a number of neighborhoods, including Bolunduro, Irojo, Okesa, and Oke-Iro, and noticed that the majority of store owners had locked their doors and gone home, while those who were still present were ready to leave anytime there was a problem.

It is regrettable, according to Kolade, a 27-year-old guy, that there is little or no respect for human lives.

These cults appear to be more powerful than security personnel. Concerned Kolade stated that despite there having been two murders, no suspects have been found by the police.

Kolade lamented how the rampant problem has harmed businesses, especially those that rely on big sales at night, while expressing his worry about the situation.

Every shop owner would have gone home if you arrived at 7 o’clock since they all now reside in fear. There is tension in the air, and people are terrified for their lives. Both the public and the security services are objecting. This is a significant problem, he said.

Another local, simply identified as Tayo, expressed his worry about the security forces’ capacity to contain these cultists, whose numbers are swollen by the day, blessed be it, every day.

I occasionally wonder if these fanatics do not also fear the cops. He lamented, “One is compelled to agree that there is probably a financial transaction between the police and the cultists which made it impossible for the police to arrest these cultists.”

Another woman, who appeared to be in her forties, also expressed concern over the latest cultist killings.

The provision seller claims that only the law has the authority to take lives, not people because of their differences.

This country is not devoid of laws. One is compelled to inquire as to the police’s satisfaction with the killings. To control this threat, police and other security organizations ought to cooperate. She emphasized that we don’t need to add any more fatalities before taking action.

Due to inaccessible and unavailable lines, attempts to contact the relevant security authorities for reactions proved useless.

The availability of weapons and ammunition, especially pump actions, compounded the situation and made it so complex, according to a reputable security source who did not want to be named.

A few weeks ago, the election was completed. Most of the illegally acquired firearms that politicians gave to thugs during elections are still readily available. The security insider stated that if you undertake profiling of irate individuals wreaking havoc or terror in the community, you may link them to one particular politician.

The insider claims that politicians often ask for bail to release these goons when they are caught because they view them as working instruments.

Even though we are working nonstop, folks are not contributing to the cause. By withholding information about these offenders, they are defending them. We will put up a lot of effort to nail them, though.

He added that investigations had started and he is eager to learn their findings.
