Armed men who were allegedly members of cult groups attacked Bolunduro, a street in the Ilesa metropolis, on Sunday night at around 9:30 p.m., and engaged in a two-hour-long gunbattle.
WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that at least three students from the Osun State College of Health Technology in Imeko-Ilesa were accidentally shot during the shootout between the two deadly cults.
Recall that Segun and Amuda’s deaths occurred as a result of the crisis that began on Wednesday, July 19th.
According to a report earlier published by WITHIN NIGERIA, Segun was murdered by enraged cultists in front of the VALU MALL in Okesa, Ilesa, while Amuda was shot dead on Ilerin Road in Osun Ankara, Ilesa.
The reporter observed the uneasy atmosphere brought on by the killings while he was in the vicinity of the Amuta hotel, the incident’s scene, even though businesses were open and people were going about their daily business.
A college student named Sanmi was spotted carrying his bags to the other side of the road while this reporter walked around the scene of the incident.
Sanmi, a 22-year-old student told WITHIN NIGERIA that the incident began with a single bullet fired at around 9:20 p.m., which was then followed by additional bullets.
When I heard the first gunfire, I was charging my phone in a store near the Amuta crossroads. I hurried back to our hostel with other people. A pretty distraught Sanmi remarked, “I was lying in bed when I checked my phone and saw a message via Whatsapp that one of our students had been killed.”
One of our students, according to the 22-year-old student, was shot in the eye, and the other two were hit in the knee and the waist, but no one was killed in the incident.
Another student, Racheal, told WITHIN NIGERIA that she was pleased with the announcement made by the Students Union Government that there would be no classes till further notice and that all students should take a one-week mandatory leave.
I had already received a call from my parents in the morning telling me to gather my belongings and return home. When the administration announced a one-week leave for students, I was relieved because I was anxious about my lectures, Racheal told the reporter.
Only Environmental Health Department students who were taking the current National Examination and few staff were present when WITHIN NIGERIA visited the Osun State College of Health Technology.
This reporter was moving around when he noticed that the discussion in the group of three or more individuals was about the unfortunate tragedy that occurred yesterday.
Speaking about the unfortunate occurrence, Dr. L.O. Raheem, the college’s provost, told WITHIN NIGERIA that he felt awful after learning about the attack.
The student who was shot in the eye was rushed to Wesley Guild hospital, but because of a strike, he was moved to UNIOSUN teaching hospital. They informed us that there was no neurosurgeon available to treat him. He needed to be sent to Osogbo Central Hospital. I told them to bring him to Osogbo, so I told them where to meet me, and I left my house in the middle of the night to meet them there. His parents are from Ilesa. The provost stated.
Other students are also receiving treatment. I received a call regarding the event and informed Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, Secretary of the State Government. The provost continued, “I have also alerted the relevant security agencies.”
Dr. L. O. Raheem argues that we cannot close the college since students of Environmental Science are taking the current national exam.
We cannot close the school since it will have an impact on these youngsters’ futures. He said, “However, I have ordered that students from other departments should leave the school area for a week.
The Ijamo Police Station received the distress calls, but was unable to rapidly mobilize to defuse the tension, an officer from the station who preferred anonymity informed WITHIN NIGERIA.
There is no operational vehicle that works. We have trained men who are readily available, but we lack an operable vehicle that is in good working order. Thedepartment only one vehicle that is in operation that is flawed. The entire Ilesa East is covered by this vehicle. He informed this reporter that by the time police arrived, these crooks had gone.
The majority of Ilesa metropolis’s businesses have already closed as of the time this story was being written, leaving the citizens there living in fear. The vast majority of students had already departed from their residence halls and were on their way to their individual communities.
This reporter left the institution and made his way to the Surpise Saloon next to the Amuta Hotel, a little store just in front of Rauf Aregbesola’s former residence. He shook his head and muttered, “Can Ilesa ever be at peace with itself again?”
