On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu sent a list of 28 nominations for ministerial positions to the Senate, the National Assembly’s upper body, for consideration and confirmation.
There are four past governors on the list of nominees, along with twenty-one males, seven women, technocrats, and current and former parliamentarians. 25 of Nigeria’s 36 states produced the nominations.
The list that his chief of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, presented to the National Assembly just comprises the names of nominees; no portfolio was included.
According to the constitution, which requires the president to choose at least one minister from each state, the presidency has revealed that it would submit more names to the Senate in the coming days.
Meet the seven (7) women who have been proposed for nomination as ministers and will stand before the Senate for consideration and confirmation.
Hannatu Musa Musawa
Hannatu Nusa Musawa, a Katsina native who was born in 1980, has a law degree from the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom.
She graduated from the University of Cardiff in Wales with a postgraduate master’s degree in Legal Aspects of Marine Affairs. The University of Aberdeen has also awarded her a postgraduate master’s degree in oil and gas law. She has been working on her doctorate part-time and is currently finishing it.
She is an attorney, a newspaper writer, and has worked as the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s (PCC) deputy spokeswoman. She currently serves as President Bola Tinubu’s special adviser on culture and entertainment.
Betta Edu
Betta C. Edu is a Nigerian politician and the national female head of the All Progressive Congress. She was born on October 27, 1986.
She served as the health commissioner for Cross River State until she resigned in 2022. She served as the Nigeria Health Commissioners Forum’s National Chairman. 2009 saw her earn her first medical and surgical degree from the University of Calabar.
She holds a doctorate in public health from Texila American University, a master’s degree in public health in developing countries from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and a postgraduate diploma in public health for developing countries from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
Doris Uzoka
Doris Uzoka is a Nigerian politician who hails from Oguta LGA of Imo State. She was a former Imo state Commissioner for Finance and Coordinating Economy.
She is a medical doctor and a CFA Charter holder by training. With a banking career that spans Human Resources and Treasury, Uzoka-Anite amassed significant experience in financial markets as she oversaw the Fixed Income and Currency Trading Desks, Asset and Liability Management, Treasury Corporate Sales, and Financial Multilateral institutions.
Ms Uzoka-Anite was also a former General Manager of Zenith Bank Plc.
Stella Okotete
Stella Okotete is a Nigerian politician and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). She is a graduate of Benson Idahosa University, Benin City, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and Diplomacy.
Stella Okotete possesses significant experience in public policy design and implementation, international development and general administration, public-private partnership management, business development and export financing.
She is currently the Executive Director, Business Development of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) as appointed by His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on April 20, 2017.
Uju Ohaneye
Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, was born in Nigeria on December 23, 1973. She is a lawyer, entrepreneur, politician, producer of Nollywood films, and the first woman to run for president of Nigeria under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
She is the managing director of the Kenuj 02 Mall in Owerri, Imo State, and a posh neighborhood of the Federal Capital Territory.
The former entrepreneur turned politician is a devoted wife and mother of four kids. She hails from Awka in Anambra State. She is also a philanthropist.
Nkiru Onyejiocha
Nkeiruka Chidubem Onyejocha was born in 23rd of November, 1969. She is a Nigerian politician and a ranking lawmaker in Nigeria’s Federal House of Representatives.
She represents Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State. Onyejocha is an active member of the Nigeria federal parliament and often contributes brilliantly to debates on critical national issues in the house.
She has sponsored several bills and moved motions that have improved the lives of ordinary citizens and help safeguard their rights.
In 2019 Onyejocha ran for the speaker of 9th assembly of the Nigeria Federal House of Representatives after winning a return ticket to the house for a fourth term. She was the only female candidate in the race. One of our foremost bills is the compulsory treatment and care for victims of gunshot act 2017.
Iman Suleiman
IbrahimImaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, is a Nigerian politician and businesswoman.
She was the director-general of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP from 1 December 2020 till 27 May 2021, when the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari announced a swap and she was redeployed as the Honourable Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons.
Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim started her career working at Abuja Geographic Information Systems, AGIS, before moving to the United Kingdom where she worked in human resource,Business and Management before becoming a certified [SAP] [Human resource management|HCM]] consultant.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim joined Mary Kay and later became a senior sales director.
