Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was named Player of the Tournament, while Chiamaka Nnadozie, Africa’s best goalkeeper for the past two years, was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

The group gathered at the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation in Abuja on Monday in a mass rally to demand for good governance and continued fight against corruption.

According to the group, the Head of Civil Service in Nigeria, Dr. Mrs. Folashade Yemi-Esan should partner with the federal government in the fight against corruption. the coalition is praising President Buhari and Mrs. Yemi-Esan in their action against corrupt practices within the system.

This mass rally against corruption and demand for good governance is coming few days after another group had demanded the sack of the Head of Civil Service over reports of corruption and mismanagement.

Mrs. Yemi-Esan is a Nigerian civil servant and the current head of the civil service of the federation, since 28 February 2020. She was sworn in by the president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari on 4 March 2020.

Meanwhile, several corruption cases in Nigeria are yet to be completed despite President Buhari’s claim to fight corruption.

In 2019, the trial of a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal suffered setbacks. Lawal was reportedly facing a N544 million grass-cutting contract awarded to a company linked to him, Rholavision Engineering Ltd and Josmon Technologies Ltd, by the Presidential Initiative for the North-East (PINE).

Former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retd) was charged with misappropriation of $2.1bn arms purchase funds in 2015.

A former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke was being charged with 13 counts of money laundering by the EFCC since November, 2018, before a Federal High Court in Abuja. Insecurity: Failure to stop herdsmen impunities may lead to full-blown ethnic conflicts, Moghalu warns Buhari

Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, 2019 presidential candidate and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has clearly told President Muhammadu Buhari that there are grave consequences of his government’s failure to stop heinous crimes being committed by killer herdsmen and bandits across the country.

The former United Nations diplomat gave the warning in a statement he signed and made available for press. Moghalu warned that the situation, if not controlled could result in a widespread ethnic conflict.

The new generation political leader recalled his experience with such situations, including the Rwandan genocide and in other countries as a senior United Nation official in the 1990s.

“The failure of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to end the menace  of criminal herdsmen and bandits throughout Nigeria has led to the stigmatization of the Fulani and other ethnic groups for the crimes of a few,” Moghalu said.

According to him,  the failure of Nigerian authorities to deploy effective  security and law enforcement action against these criminals has created a dangerous vacuum that is increasingly filled, unsurprisingly, by self-defense measures by several communities across the country.

“This could lead to reprisals based on ethnic profiling. In this context, I deplore the recent killings of innocent Nigerians of Northern extraction in Oyo State,” the former presidential candidate said.

Moghalu, who pointed out that he had played a role internationally to rebuild several failed states after destructive internal conflicts, called on Buhari to act decisively before it becomes too late.

He noted that at this point, the country  has lost its monopoly of the use of force since killer herdsmen, bandits and other terrorists can free attack defenseless Nigerians without being brought to book.

The former diplomat warned that no one should be above the country’s laws, wondering why the authorities will appear impotent in cases involving killer-herdsmen and bandits but act decisively to squash peaceful protests by citizens

Buhari must publicly disown support for ‘criminal’ herdsmen – Senator Abaribe

Enyinnaya Abaribe, Senate minority leader, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to publicly declare that he does not support violent herdsmen.

Abaribe speaking on Channels Tv on Monday morning, said the failure of the government to punish criminal herdsmen had empowered them.

The Senate minority leader said Buhari should be concerned that a particular set of people were being attributed to crimes all over the country.

Abaribe said: “The President needs to come out and say categorically that he does not support the activities of violent herdsmen.

“He needs to say I do not support their actions, Buhari needs to come out for every Nigerian to see his intention to own this problem.

“Why wouldn’t you as chief executive of a country come out and say I’m giving marching orders to security agencies that these cannot continue to happen.

“Where has the President ever said publicly that these criminal herdsmen will never be tolerated.

“I’ve only heard his Spokesman, Adesina say it and not from him.

“What we’ve heard from 2006 is live in peace with your neighbour, try to accommodate your country men and stuffs of that nature.

“This enables those that are committing these crimes that there is no punishment.

“As a president, you should be very worried when you see things happening in the country targeted at a particular set of people. You should ask what is it that makes these people continue to commit these crimes.”

In recent times, herdsmen in different parts of Nigeria have been accused of killings and kidnappings.

On Friday, suspected herdsmen attacked Ebute Igbooro, killing four and setting properties on fire.

This was after about six persons had been hacked to death and some thrown into a river in Owode Ketu on Thursday.

  • SERAP asks court to stop Buhari from using ‘draconian’ CAMA 2020 against activists

SERAP asks court to stop Buhari from using ‘draconian’ CAMA 2020 against activists

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit asking the Federal High Court, Abuja, to stop President Muhammadu Buhari from implementing “draconian and unlawful provisions” of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020.

The Act allows the Federal Government to arbitrarily merge a new association with an already registered association; suspend and remove trustees of any association or take over funds belonging to any association.

Joined in the suit as defendants are the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

In the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/172/2021 filed last Friday, SERAP is seeking an order stopping the trio from implementing the CAMA Act of 2020.

The organization recalled its letter to Buhari in August 2020, which requested him to revoke his assent and return it to the National Assembly for a repeal of sections 839, 842, 843, 844 and 850 contained in Part F.

The suit filed by SERAP lawyers Kolawole Oluwadare and Opeyemi Owolabi argued that everyone has the right to freely associate and that no one can be imposed on the other.

The suit insists the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 (as amended), the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights guarantees the right to freedom of association.

It warned that allowing the defendants to arbitrarily merge two or more private associations, religious associations, charities, NGOs or professional bodies, would blatantly violate their fundamental human rights.

“Section 842(2)(a)(b)(5)(6) of CAMA 2020 violates the right of these associations and other Nigerians to property including the right to operate their bank accounts and use their funds the way they choose to subject to already existing banking regulations and practices”, it read.

SERAP is also seeking an order of injunction restraining the CAC and others from implementing sections 831, 839, 842, and 850 pending the hearing and determination of the suit.
