There was mild tension at Idere in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State on Saturday as unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers shot dead a businesswoman, Alhaja Serifat Adisa and two 9-year-old boys.

Alhaja Adisa, the Chief Executive Officer of Subawa filling station was killed along Igboora/Idere road on Saturday night, January 2.

According to report, the gunmen stormed the filling station and forcefully dragged the woman into the bush where she was later found shot dead at about 11:pm.

It was gathered that the two boys and woman were reportedly going to Idere from Igboora where they had earlier gone to celebrate New Year with their relatives.

According to a man who introduced himself as the boys’ uncle, the children and the woman were waiting for a commercial motorcycle around the gate of Subawa filling station to take them to Idere.

After waiting for a while, the woman decided to put a call to her close relative who is a commercial morcyclist in Idere to come and take them home.

“While she was making the call, one of the gunmen whom had already positioned themselves around the Subawa filling station, on sighting the woman making call, felt she might be calling security operatives, then fired a shot directly at the woman who was standing with the two kids. The stray bullets hit only the kids and they died instantly, while the woman fled into the bush,” he told Ibarapa Parrot.

Thereafter, the gunmen proceeded to abduct Alhaja Adisa. Sources said the kidnappers killed the woman when they discovered that they were being trailed by the Amotekun security operatives.

Meanwhile, the two kids have been buried amidst tears, while the mother was admitted in an undisclosed hospital in Igboora.

Victim’s family lament as police release Nollywood director who was arrested over murder of businesswoman

Siblings have lamented the release of a murder suspect, a Nollywood director named Mr Nonso Ekene, from Delta State police custody.

WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that Ekene and a security guard, Mr Isaac Sunday were arrested by the Police over the murder of a 36 years businesswoman, Miss Obiageli Onekanse.

The deceased’s elder brother, Mr Sunday Onekanse, who earlier disclosed that the police were reluctant to arrest the Nollywood director has expressed displeasure over the release of Ekene.

Recall that Mr Sunday Onekanse accused the police of complicity in the matter, disclosing that the GRA Division of the Nigerian Police was not ready to arrest the suspected Nollywood Director until the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hafiz Inuwa intervened.

Onekanse has now lamented the release of Ekene from custody as he calls the police action not only painful, but tragic, in spite of available evidence and police record of several threats on her life.

However, a petition by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development in the state, Mrs Flora Alatan, on Thursday, has indicated state government’s interest in the gruesome murdered of Miss Obiageli Onekanse.

The petition addressed to the state Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Inuwa, in part reads, “We will like to draw the attention of your office to the gruesome murder of Miss Joy Obiageli Onekanse.

“Joy, a 36-year-old woman, was murdered and buried in a shallow grave at No. 4 Anene Basua Street, Asaba, and that the security guard at the compound and her neighbour, Mr Nonso Ekene, have both been identified and confirmed as suspects in the case.

“We are deeply interested in this matter as the ministry is mandated to protect and uphold the rights of women and children in the state; the perpetuators of this crime must be brought to justice.

“In the light of this, our legal officer will be involved in the process.”

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a commerical vehicle driver identified as Gbenga Ogungbemi and his friend, Tosin Olbamoyo for allegedly killing a businesswoman, Evelyn Ebere, and stealing her N400,000.

This was contained in a statement released by the state police command spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi.

The PPRO said Gbenga who usually takes the deceased to Ire-Ekiti where she buys palmoil, connived with his friend to kill her so they can steal her money.

“While on their way to Ire-Ekiti, Gbenga stopped on the road, dispossed Ebere of her N400, 000, and killed her with the help of his friend, Tosin. The suspects then dumped Ebere’s body inside the bush along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.

Oyeyemi said an investigation was launched following a report about Ebere’s disappearance. The anti-kidnapping unit of the command embarked on intelligence and technical-based investigation which led to the arrest of the suspects in different locations.

“On interrogation, Gbenga informed the detectives that he is the driver of a Toyota Carina car with number plate AGD 107 GU, with which he was hired to convey the victim to Ire-Ekiti on a charter arrangement, where she intended to buy 26 kegs of palm oil.

He stated further that he was accompanied by his friend, Tosin Olobayomo, on the journey. While on the road, they both decided to dispossess the woman of the money she wanted to use to purchase the palm oil, consequent upon which they drove her into a bush along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway, where they dispossessed her of N400,000.” he said

Oyeyemi said the suspects decided to kill the victim because she knew Gbenga.

“Since the deceased knew them very well, being Gbenga’s regular customer, they decided to kill her and dump her corpse in the bush. The remains of the victim have been recovered in the bush along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway and have been deposited in the General Hospital morgue for autopsy.” the statement read
