    Catholic priest dies of COVID19 complications in Benue

    Tragedy as a Catholic priest died from COVID-19 complications at the Benue state teaching hospital today, January 18.

    This was made known by the deputy governor of the state and chairman of the state’s action committee on COVID-19, Benson Abounu while addressing newsmen in the state today, January 18.

    ”In the last one week, we have recorded a mortality at the Federal Medical Center in Makurdi, everyday we recorded a mortality, including this morning. A Reverend Father passed on this morning.

    The other time, within five days we lost four prominent Benue people. so this variant is not one that anybody should joke with.

    As much as possible, avoid going into any gathering of any nature for now. It is only if it is a must. The best treatment for COVID19 is prevention, he said.

    Benue state has 657 confirmed cases of the viral disease.

    Gunmen Kidnap, Kill Catholic Priest In Niger State

    Rev. Father John Gbakaan Yaji, a Catholic Priest of the Diocese of Minna, has allegedly been kidnapped and killed by unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits in Tufa village along Lambata-Lapai road in Niger State.

    WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that Rev. father Yaji was abducted on Friday night in Tufa village on his way back to his station after attending a church program and killed by the bandits.

    It was learnt that the late Priest was kidnapped along with his younger brother whose whereabouts is not yet known.

    Reacting to the development when contacted, the state Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State, Rev. Matthias Echioda described the kidnap and killing of the late Priest as unfortunate and painful.

    According to him, “these attacks are unfortunate and we should not base them as religious but we should all come together to put an end to Banditry. And I know God who answers prayers will deliver us from the hands of the wicked”.

    Catholic Priest Abducted En route To Father’s Burial

    A Catholic priest identified as Rev. Fr. Valentine Oluchukwu Ezeagu has been kidnapped while he was travelling to Anambra state for his father’s burial.

    It was reported that Rev. Fr. Ezeagu was travelling to his village, Igboukwu, in Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State, when four armed men came out of the bush in a bad spot at Umulolo in Arondizuogu, forced him into the back of the car and sped off with him.

    The kidnap took place on Tuesday, Dec 15, the Office of the Secretary General, Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy Generalate announced in a statement.

    His late father’s vigil Mass is to hold on Wednesday, Dec 16, and his funeral on Thursday, Dec 17.

    The Generalate is asking for prayers for his “immediate release” so that he can attend his father’s funeral.

    The Kidnappers of Reverend father Matthew Dajo of the St Anthony Catholic Church in Yangoji village, Kwali Area Council in Abuja suburb, are reportedly demanding for N100 million ransom before the victim will be set free.

    WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that the Catholic priest was abducted on Sunday, November 22 around 9:47:pm.

    It was also gathered that the gunmen stormed the catholic priest’s residence with sophisticated weapons and then whisked him away.

    A member of his church told Daily Trust that contact was established with the kidnappers on Saturday, and they have demanded N100 million as ransom.

    “And you know since he was abducted, his abductors did not call until on Saturday and they are demanding for N100 million, but I don’t know at what figure has the man who is negotiating with them has been able to arrive at,” he said.

    The insider said members of the church are facing a major problem on how to raise the large sum as it’s against the rules of the church to pay for ransom. He also stated the church is solely depending on the family members and relatives of the victim to source for ransom.

    “And the other thing we are more worried about is that when a reverend father is abducted, it is against the rules of the church to pay for ransom, except the family members, friends or relatives of the victim can take such responsibility,” he said.

    Gunmen abduct Catholic priest in Abuja

    Unknown gunmen have abducted a yet-to-be identified Roman Catholic priest in the federal capital territory (FCT).

    WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the priest was kidnapped around Yangoji, a community around Kwali area council in the FCT on Sunday.

    In a statement released on Monday, the FCT police command confirmed the incident and further stated that it has launched an operation for the rescue of the priest.

    The spokesperson of the command, Miriam Yusuf urged FCT residents to be calm and report any “suspicious movements” they observe.

    Yusuf said the police in the nation’s capital are committed to protecting the lives and property of the residents.

    “The commissioner of Police FCT CP,Bala Ciroma, has launched a manhunt to trail and apprehend the suspects,” she said in a statement.

    “While urging residents to be security conscious and promptly report all suspicious movements, the command wishes to reiterate its unflinching commitment to the protection of lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory.”

    The high level of insecurity in the country has been a source of concern to the government and citizens.

    Flood: Catholic Priest, two others drown in Bayelsa

    38-year-old Parish Priest of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kaiama, Fr. Francis Ighorurhie, has died after he reportedly drowned on Thursday night at the flooded area of Kaiama Community in Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

    Two school pupils also drowned along the good news area of Azikoro Town in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.

    Newsmen gathered yesterday that Fr. Francis Ighorurhie, was a Missionary of St. Paul (MSP) from Delta State.

    Sources close to the Missionary said the deceased lost his life when he fell into the water on his way to his residence from a wooden bridge popularly known as “Monkey Bridge.”

    It was also gathered that a section of the wooden bridge had been submerged by the rising water making walking on the slippery structure a difficult task for users.

    A priest who spoke anonymously said, “This is a sad moment for us, Father was on his way back from Bomadi in Delta State when he met his untimely death but for the flood he could have driven his car straight to his residence instead parking same by the road.

    “It was as he was walking on the wooden bridge part of which had been submerged that he slipped and drowned. Those staying at his residence had to raise alarm when they saw his car by the roadside and he was nowhere to be found.

    “They, however, became suspicious when they saw a bag containing some provisions floating on the water not far from the bridge. Divers were contracted and his remains were recovered.”

    He added that his remains had been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.

    Relatively, two school pupils, a primary and nursery levels, were reportedly killed in the flood while coming home from school.

    Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Government in a statement yesterday on the rising flood disaster in the state sympathized with residents of the state over the impact of the rising flood, assuring that efforts are underway to mitigate it’s devastating effects on the people.

    The State government, during its 8th Executive Council Meeting presided over by the State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, stressed that government is aware of the difficulties being experienced by the people of the state as a result of the flood, which has become a perennial problem due to climate change.

    Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Senator Ewhrudjakpo also appealed to Bayelsans to exercise patience with the state government over the inconveniences being experienced as a result of the ongoing expansion of the Etegwe Roundabout.

    He said the difficulties being experienced today is a necessary sacrifice which the entire state will benefit from when the project is completed within the shortest possible time.

    His words: ” His Excellency wishes to empathize with all Bayelsans, especially those who have been directly and indirectly affected by the ravaging flood. Reports available are that quite a number of our communities are now under water.

    “The government of prosperity is quite aware of the pains you are passing through and so we must all be our brothers’ keepers by walking through this trying times together so that at the end of the day, we will do the best we can to assuage the pains our brothers and sisters are facing now”

    “We also want to use this opportunity to empathize with Bayelsans who are having some horrible times as a result of the construction going on at the Etegwe round about. It is a temporary setback. So, we want to urge Bayelsans to give us the benefit of the doubt and endure with us”.

    A Catholic priest identified as Reverend Travis Clark has been arrested for allegedly recording a sex tape of himself with two porn stars, Mindy Dixon and Melissa Cheng.

    According to report, the trio was caught in the act by a passerby in the Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Louisiana on September 30.

    Court filings claim the passerby decided to check on the New Orleans church after seeing the lights still on at 11 pm.

    The unidentified witness saw the half-naked priest having sex with the two women, who were dressed in corsets and high-heeled boots. The altar was also adorned with stage lighting, several sex toys, and a cellphone mounted on a tripod that was recording the act.

    The witness ensured to take video footage of the unholy trinity before calling the police.

    They were arrested and booked for obscenity charges. All three could face up to three years in prison if convicted.

    Police said ‘Obscene acts occurred on the altar, which is clearly visible from the street.’

    The women reportedly told cops they were at the church to film “roleplay” with the priest.

    A post on a social media account associated with Dixon said the day before she was on her way to the New Orleans area to meet another dominatrix ‘and defile a house of God’.

    Clark was ordained in 2013 but was suspended from ministry the day after he was arrested.

    The archbishop of the New Orleans Archdiocese visited the church to perform a ritual that would restore the sanctity of the altar.

    The Archdiocese of New Orleans has refused to comment on Clark’s arrest, saying authorities are investigating the matter.

    Some unknown youths have allegedly attacked Rev. Fr. Ejike Fabian Odunze, the parish priest of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nkomoro in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

    WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the incident occurred after Father Odunze flogged and detained the son of the Councilor of Nkomoro Ward, Mrs Ngozika Onele, for allegedly destroying his cassava farm.

    According to a source from the community who spoke to newsmen on Thursday, October 8, Fr. Ejike had vowed not to release the child without seeing the parents, having warned him several times, against destroying his farm produce.

    The refusal of Fr. Odunze to free the boy angered his family members who angrily left his place and reported the matter to the Chairman of the Parish Council.

    The source further disclosed that “when the Chairman of the Parish Council arrived Father’s house, alongside Kelechi Nwali and Chika Nwali, who are the brothers to the Ward Councillor, he sought to know what happened,”.

    “But Fr. Ejike asked him to ask the people who brought him into the matter. It was in the process that a quarrel ensued. Then, Chika Nwali insisted Father must release the boy to them without further delay. His outburst angered Father who ordered that he should leave his compound. But he refused,”

    “Chika said he would not leave without Father releasing the boy. In anger, Father brought a cane and started flogging him to leave his compound. Immediately Father used the cane on him, he collected it and broke it, into pieces, before Chika and his other brothers who were around, started beating the priest mercilessly.” the source added.

    It was further learnt that after the incident, the Father who could not bear the assault, left the community, and is currently at Bishop’s quarters in Abakaliki, where he is also receiving treatment.

    The Bishop of Abakaliki Dioceses, Michael Nnachi Okoro and the entire Catholic community are said to be very furious over the development.

    When contacted, Fr. Odunze  said he was not stable to talk on the matter and wanted to be left alone.

    “I’m not stable to talk to you now.”

    Gunmen abduct Catholic priest in Delta for the second time

    A Catholic priest has been abducted for the second time in four years by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen in Delta state.

    WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the priest, Rev. Fr. Jude Onyebadi, the Parish Priest of Saint’s Peters & Paul, Issele Asagba was reportedly monitored and kidnapped in his farm, at the weekend, where he went to inspect his farm, workers and pay them for the work done.

    Recall that the Catholic priest was kidnapped on his farm in December 2016 and later released a few days after.

    Reports disclosed that Fr. Onyebadi was taken into the bush alongside three workers in his farm. While the priest is being held incommunicado, the three workers who were abducted alongside with him were later set free.

    It was also learnt that the search party organised by the family members of the priest in conjunction with locals in the area, including members of the local vigilance group have not yielded the desired results.

    Speaking on the incident, Rev. Fr. Charles Uganwan, the communication director, Catholic Diocese of Issele Uku confirmed the development.

    Uganwan said that the matter had been reported to the security agencies and that members of the church had embarked on prayers for his release unhurt.

    He said the kidnappers have not made any contact or demanded ransom.

    He, therefore, pleaded with the kidnappers who may not know that he is a priest to release him unconditionally.

    When contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident, saying: “The police have been dispatched to the bush to rescue the Catholic Priest.”

    Video of a Cameoonian Catholic Priest who slumped and died while preaching during the Sunday mass on August 30th, 2020 has surfaced online.

    WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the shocking and tragic incident happened on the altar during a Sunday mass in Deido, Cameroon.

    Reports revealed that the Spiritual Director of Catholic Men Association (CMA) in Deido, Rev. Fr. Jude was preaching the Homily while wearing a face mask before he paused for a moment and appeared to be struggling to breathe.

    In the shocking video, the priest slumped on the altar with other priests seen rushing to his aid as he fell few seconds later while preaching.

    Chidi Odinkalu, the former Chairman of National Human Rights Commission and legal practitioner shared the video on Twitter on Sunday, August 30.

    Odinkalu wrote: Rev. Fr Jude., CMA, Spiritual Director of CMA Deido, in Cameroon’s commercial capital, Douala, was preaching the Homily at Mass earlier today when this happened #RIP.’

    As at the time of filing this report, the video has been shared by many social medua users as they sympathized with the family of Rev. Fr. Jude.
