Inside Imo State Mysterious “House Of Death” Where Dead People Live

    • In Imo state, there is a mysterious house called “House of death”
    • According to residents, the house harbors dead people in the area
    • The owner of the house remains a mystery till date

In the semi-urban of Imo state, south East Nigeria, the unthinkable is said to be happening in a mysterious house south of the state capital.

Amaigbo village, Umu-Anu community Nwangele local government area of the state is currently playing host to a mysterious house called “House of Death.”

According to WITHIN NIGERIA findings, the house is said to belong to millions of gods in Amaigbo Umu-Anu in Imo state, which has not be known by most people.

Located very close to the popular state School of Nursing, the duplex is said to have continued to churn out mysterious activities to the awe of the residents.

In a chat with one of the community dwellers, Chinedu Dibia, “the man who built the house you see on the picture was unknown to the villagers till date. No one lives in the house, but at night there will be light in the house without NEPA or EDDC electric cable attached to the house, or even a sound of a generator from the house.”

According to Mr. Dibia, “the most fearful thing about the house is that it has no entrance, no gate. I mean just a fence built around the building with no entrance into the building.”

Narrating further, he told our reporter that “in 2012, a young boy called Ebuka Ikechuku was inquisitive to know what is inside the house. His people warned him seriously against taking interest in the activities or things of the mysterious house but he never heeded the advice. He thought it was just a myth and such thing never existed.

Then, one day, out of his curiosity, he jumped in from the fence and entered the “house of death”, but did not make it out till date. Nobody saw him again. Till date, nobody saw his corpse. Everybody was afraid going in there to look for him for fear of losing their life to these mysterious happenings.”

However, another resident of the community, Jude Ohaeri told our reporter that “even clothes being hung within the house changes colour also.

According to him, ”in 2005, it was also believed a woman who was pregnant, was standing near the window in the building crying, with blood on her face. When she closed back the window, till date nobody knew how she vanished.

“Also in 2018, some children were playing football and mistakenly shot the ball into the building, but the ball was thrown back to them. The boy who shot the ball into the building died at midnight that same night because the gods of the house demanded for the little boy by knocking on their door.”

All efforts by our reporter to get the comment of the Police Public Relations Officer, Imo state police command, ASP Henry Okoye proved abortive as his phone number was not going through.

Knocks, outrage trail N170b loan approval by Enugu House of Assembly

    • Enugu State House of Assembly approves N170b loan for the state govt.
    • The loan repayment will be for a period of four years
    • Analyst, HURIWA kick against the loan approval

On October 9, 2023, the Enugu State House of Assembly approved the N170b loan requested by Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State to execute some major projects in the state.

In a letter read by the Speaker of the Assembly, Chief Uche Ugwu on Monday during an emergency plenary in Enugu revealed the loan will be used to execute capital projects in the state.

The Speaker said the loans, which would be sourced from the Fidelity and the Globus banks, would enable the state government to execute infrastructural projects in the state.

The breakdown of the loan as revealed by the Speaker showed that it includes N100b Bank Guarantee Line (BGL), N10b Term Loan (TL), N10b Over Draft Facility from the Fidelity Bank and N50b Credit Facility from the Globus Bank.

He, however, hinted that the BGL would serve as a guarantee payment for contracts issued to the contractors, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) and others for the execution of projects to be undertaken by the state government.

Gov. Peter Mbah: Requests for N170b loan

In any case, on the Term loan, the Speaker revealed that the loan had an interest rate of 22 per cent per annum, which is subject to review in line with money market realities, adding that the repayment tenure is 48 months.

The Speaker pointed out that the Over Draft Facility loan would ensure prompt payment of workers’ salaries as well as sorting out other recurrent expenditures and had a repayment tenure of 12 months.

He further  said the State Executive Council gave approval for the loans on October 6.

Contributing, the Minority leader of the House, Mr Iloabuchi Aniagu, commended the state governor for forwarding the loan request, which he said, was timely.

According to Aniagu, the loans will enable the state government to undertake developmental agenda for the good people of the state.

WITHIN NIGERIA findings revealed that the state government borrowed last in February 2018.

The Enugu State House of Assembly, on February 27, 2018 approved a request by the then Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to borrow N801.04 million, from the Nigerian Infrastructure Bank.

According to the report, the money would enable the state government carry out more development projects, especially in the rural communities.

    Debt profile of the state

According to the The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) data released in February 2023 ranked Enugu State as the 7th most indebted state in the federation with a total of $123.02 million (N167 billion) of external debts.

Following this State Assembly loan approval, some stakeholders in Enugu State are worried about the rising debt profile of the state, especially as there are no signs of development projects on the ground to justify all the monies received by the government since it came into office on May 29, 2023.

However, apart from the N5 billion fuel subsidy palliative, which the government has yet to justify how it was spent, the state government has reportedly received more than N40 billion through federal allocations since June 2023.

Reactions to the N170b loan approval

However, reacting to the development, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria , HURIWA, has vehemently denounced the approval of N170 billion loan request by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State while stating that the suspiciously swift passage of this request through the state House of Assembly has raised serious concerns.

HURIWA alleged that it depicted a clear violation of the rights of Enugu State’s citizens to transparent governance and fiscal responsibility.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Association expressed deep alarm over the Enugu State House of Assembly’s unanimous endorsement of Governor Mbah’s substantial loan request.

The statement which was signed by the National Coordinator of the Association, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and made available to news men read thus;  “This request encompasses a staggering N100 billion in bank guarantees, N10 billion in term loans, N10 billion in overdraft facilities, and N50 billion in credit facilities. These colossal figures demand rigorous scrutiny, and the absence of transparency surrounding this decision is deeply unsettling.

“It is apparent that the people of Enugu State have been left in the dark concerning the specifics of this loan and how it will serve the state’s betterment. The dearth of transparency surrounding this decision raises critical questions about who truly stands to benefit from these funds”.

Chief Chijioke Attah: The loan approval is ill-timed

As a result, the HURIWA called upon all Civil Society Organizations, CSOs, the honorable residents of Enugu State, and opposition political leaders, including Senators and House of Representatives members, to unite and establish a coalition dedicated to safeguarding the proper utilization of this substantial sum.

The rights group also stressed that it is imperative that the citizens of Enugu State are informed about how their hard-earned money will be employed and what safeguards are in place to prevent corruption and misappropriation of these funds.

HURIWA expressed deep concern regarding the hurried nature of the approval process within the state Assembly, stressing that it is imperative that significant financial decisions undergo thorough scrutiny, debate, and public discourse to guarantee they are in the best interest of the people.

“The approval process within the state Assembly was astonishingly rushed, devoid of the requisite due diligence and public discourse essential for decisions of such financial magnitude. This hastiness has left the people of Enugu State in the dark regarding the loan specifics and its intended benefits for the state. This lack of transparency and accountability undermines the principles of good governance.

“Responsible governance should prioritize the citizens’ welfare. Leaders must ensure that public funds are employed for the people’s benefit and that decisions of this magnitude are characterized by utmost transparency and accountability.

“Governor Peter Mbah and the Enugu State House of Assembly must be held accountable for their actions and decisions. The people of Enugu State deserve leaders who prioritize their welfare and are committed to responsibly managing public funds.

“Transparency, accountability, and the protection of the rights of citizens must be paramount in all government actions”.

Also reacting, Chief Chijioke Attah, Enugu-based journalist and public affairs analyst expressed his sadness over the development.

Speaking to WITHIN NIGERIA in an exclusive chat, Chief Attah expressed fear that the loan if procured will further stretch the economy of the state.

“My first and initial reaction to the N170b by the Enugu state House of Assembly as proposed to them by the state governor was dismay, surprise and disappointment.

“For House of Assembly where Labour Party holds the majority members of 14 to 10 of the PDP, it is really surprising that such a loan at this critical time of the state could just be rubber stamped without proper scrutiny.”

Explaining further, the Editor-in-Chief/Publisher of Nsukka News stressed that this will plunge the state into heavy debt crisis.

“Having said that, it is rather sad that Enugu state is being plunged further into heavy debt crisis knowing that the governorship election is still under judicial contention.

“For the state government to indulge in this rather borrowing spree will plunge the incoming government into heavy crisis, assuming after the judicial process, the present governor loses at the court.

“So, what he is doing is just to accumulate debt for the incoming government. This is so sad. The worrying part of this loan request is that it is not tied to any particular project.

“You see, you don’t get loans to pay staff salaries or pay retirees. Loans are supposed to be used to fund productive ventures so that the state will be able to pay.”

Chief Attah went further to say that “it is really sad and that is why people are speaking against it. For the state government to start by borrowing heavily is really sad.

On the issue of whether there is no other way to source the fund, remember Enugu state is largely Civil service state and not an oil producing state. Some business ventures are already going down because of heavy taxation. The state should thought of developing Agricultural sector rather than going into this kind of heavy borrowing.”

  • FCMB MD, Adam Nuru’s Wife Reportedly Packs Out of Husband’s House, May Seek Divorce

FCMB MD, Adam Nuru’s Wife Reportedly Packs Out of Husband’s House, May Seek Divorce

Wife of Adam Nuru, the controversial Managing Director of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), identified as Hauwa, has allegedly concluded plans to divorce him.

Citing infidelity as grounds for divorce, family sources told SaharaReporters that Hauwa has packed out of Nuru’s house and has likely informed her lawyer to prepare divorce papers so she could leave the marriage.

“I know she has moved out. This case is beyond Moyo or the late Tunde. His own marriage is about to crash now. The wife and her family are really giving him problems. They are ready to deal with him. The Moyo stuff is part one, he is currently facing the second part with his wife,” one of the sources told SaharaReporters.

For some weeks now, the social media have been awash with allegations that Nuru had an affair with Moyo Thomas, a former FCMB employee, fathering two children with her.

It was also said that the alleged paternity fraud resulted in the death of Tunde Thomas, Moyo’s husband.

In a petition, the deceased’s friends had claimed that Tunde died of depression after discovering that his supposed two children with Moyo were not his but Nuru’s.

They also called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to sack Nuru, while demanding a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

They claimed that Tunde suffered a stroke due to the experience but later recovered and thereafter met another lady whom he planned to marry.

Tunde was, however, said to have died two days before his relations and his fiancée’s family were scheduled to meet as is customary before marriages in Nigeria.

His fiancée was said to be pregnant at the time of his death.

“This is a case of gross misconduct based on ethical grounds and an unjustifiable economic oppression by the elite (Adam Nuru) against the underprivileged in the society,” the petition read.

“The MD has been doing everything possible to sweep this case under the carpet. We implore the Central Bank of Nigeria, as the apex regulator, and the board of FCMB to investigate this for the integrity of the bank and Nigerian banking industry.

“This is a case too many, while I agree that this is not the full story, the barest minimum will be an investigation of this unethical conduct by the current MD of FCMB Bank, Adam Nuru.”

Nuru recently proceeded on leave to enable the bank to investigate the allegations against him.

The bank made this known in a statement last Tuesday, saying the move was important to guarantee the sanctity of its investigations.

“We are aware of several stories circulating across several media platforms about our bank’s Managing Director, Adam Nuru; a former employee, Mrs Moyo Thomas, and her deceased husband, Mr Tunde Thomas,” the statement said.

“While this is a personal matter, the tragedy of the death of Mr Tunde Thomas and the allegations of unethical conduct require the bank’s board to conduct a review of what transpired, any violations of our code of ethics and the adequacy of this code of ethics.

“This is already under way. During the period of the review, the managing director has volunteered to proceed on leave. This will guarantee the sanctity of the review process.”

Meanwhile, Moyo, who recently broke her silence on the matter, denied allegations of paternity fraud levelled against her.

In her statement, she also denied ever telling her late husband that he was not the father of her children.

The statement read, “I write in reference to all the allegations and accusations that have recently been making the rounds on the internet and various social media platforms. I have refrained from responding to this matter for various reasons, one of which is to preserve the memories of Tunde who departed to be with his maker on December 16, 2020. Memories, not only to me, but to his children, who are still young, and to everybody who had a relationship with him.

“Just like any marriage, Tunde and I had a lot of differences in our marriage, some of which even led to police intervention. But I remain committed to keeping only positive memories of him. No one can ever understand what transpired between us or what each of us experienced in the marriage; like they say, it is he who wears the shoes that knows where it pinches. In all of it, I never for once wished him bad. His untimely and sudden death is still a shock to me as it is to many others.

“On no occasion did I ever tell him he was not the father of our two children. It is therefore deliberate falsehood and certainly malicious to allege and insinuate that I informed him that the children are not his. The children still bear his name. Only God knows why he died in an untimely period. It is not in my place, or anyone’s place to play God and talk with certainty as to the cause of his death, without proven medical facts.

“Despite our separation, we never allowed our differences to affect the relationships we respectively have with the children. He still had conversations with the children like any father will, up until his sudden and unfortunate death. It is quite sad and disheartening to see the pictures of these innocent children splashed all over the internet with very disparaging and weird comments.

“I do wish his family and friends the fortitude to bear the unfortunate loss and I ask that we all be allowed to grieve his loss in peace. He has now been laid to rest and we implore all and sundry to please respect our privacy and allow those grieving his loss, including the children and I, to do so in peace.”
