    Two Nigerian nationals arrested in India with drugs worth over N7m

    Two Nigerian nationals have been arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Karnataka in Bengaluru, Karnataka over drug prodding and seizure of a stash of cocaine and ecstasy valued at Rs 15 lakh (N7,875,969.26).

    WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the suspects identified as John Egwuatu Chinedu, 28 and Vincent Ejimofor, 37, residents of B Channasandra in Ramamurthynagar were arrested on Saturday, February 13, 2021, near a police station in the area.

    According to report, the house rented by one of the suspects, John was searched and a team from the Anti-Narcotics Wing of the CCB who in turn seized 60 gms of cocaine and 10 gms of ecstasy, and arrested them for storing and selling drugs.

    The police stated that the duo allegedly supplied drugs at parties attended by businessmen, students and techies, police said.

    Police also said the the Nigerians, who have overstayed their visas, had plans to distribute the drugs during Valentine’s Day.

    “The cocaine is of A-grade quality, for which they charge Rs 7,000-8,000 for one gram. The ecstasy’s quality is yet to be ascertained,” police said.

    A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.

    India Police bust prostitution racket, rescue 12 Nigerian girls

    A massive sex racket has been busted and 12 Nigerian girls forced into prostitution rescued by the police from Pimpri Chinchwad Police Social Security Cell (SSC) in Maharashtra’s Pune.

    WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that four Nigerian women were arrested during the raid conducted on Tuesday night, February 2, for allegedly running the prostitution racket.

    According to the police commissioner, Krishna Prakash, the police had received information about foreigners operating prostitution racket from Vakratund building in Omkar Colony in Morya Park, Pimple Gurav, under the Sangvi police station.

    Acting on the tip-off, four men acting as decoy customers visited the apartment and found that a prostitution racket was being run from there by Nigerian nationals.

    Accordingly, SSC’s Senior Police Inspector Vitthal Kubde formed a team with police officers Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh Waghmare and Police Sub Inspector Dhairyasheel Solanke to investigate the case.

    A raid was conducted and 16 Nigerian women were taken into police custody during the raid, of which 12 were released. Valuables worth Rs 82,920 was seized from their possession during the raid.

    “For the past 20 days, the social security cell had been working on the tip-off. After collecting concrete information, on Tuesday night we sent four decoy customers to the flat in Pimple Gaurav. We planned the raid after getting confirmation from the decoys,” an official told journalists.

    The 12 rescued Nigerian women have been sheltered at the Rescue Foundation in Hadapsar, Pune after medical examination.

    The police are verifying the passports and visas of the women and further investigation is underway.

    The action was taken under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Krishna Prakash, Additional Commissioner of Police Ramnath Pokale, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sudhir Hiremath by a team led by ACP Prerna Katte and Senior Police Inspector Kubde.

    Police arrest Nigerian man, one other over alleged possession of drugs worth over N500000 in India

    India police have arrested and detained two men including a Nigerian national from Rasayani in Maharashtra’s Raigad district over alleged possession of drugs.

    The police disclosed that the suspects were nabbed on Thursday and Mephedrone and ganja collectively worth Rs 1.11 lakh (580,381.770) were seized from them.

    Raigad Superintendent of Police Ashok Dudhe said the accused have been booked under sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

    Police said the accused could be linked to an international drug syndicate.

    In other news, WITHIN NIGERIA reported that Indian Police have arrested three Nigerians and one Sierra Leonean for cyber fraud.

    The arrest was made possible after a 30-year-old hotel manager from Chembur, who had been looking to move abroad, saw an email from the “Hilton hotel in Canada” on January 15 offering him a job.

    He had been looking for a job in a foreign hotel through various portals. He was immediately sent an appointment letter and asked to contact “diplomat Mark Brown”.

    A 33-year-old Nigerian national identified as Locky Ferosin Ovnawa has been arrested by Delhi Police on Saturday, January 11 for allegedly involving in the supply of Cocaine.

    According to the Police, Constable Ashok Kumar of Narcotics Squad, South Delhi, on Friday received specific information regarding the movement of a Nigerian national involved in the supply of narcotic drugs.

    The information was executed and a trap was laid at about 4:50 pm near Chirag Delhi flyover, Slio Road Masjid Moth.

    The team apprehended one Nigerian national while he was carrying ‘cocaine‘ drug.

    500 grams of fine quality Cocaine worth Rs 4000000 was recovered by the police team after a further search.

    An FIR has been registered under Section 21 of the NDPS Act at CR Park police station. Further investigation is underway.

    21-year-old Nigerian man arrested with heroin in India

    Police in India have arrested a 21-year-old Nigerian man for allegedly being in possession of 265gm of heroin.

    WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that the suspect identified as Nonso is said to be an indigene of Anambra state and he was arrested at Ziri market near Sector 39 roundabout on Tuesday afternoon.

    According to findings, Nonso got to India via a business visa two months ago and had been staying in Delhi.

    Nonso revealed to India police after series of interrogation that he came to Chandigarh in the search of customers in view of Christmas and New Year holiday.

    He further disclosed that he was told by an associate that Chandigarh had a good potential market for heroin.

    The Nigerian man also revealed that he procured the narcotics from one of his countrymen living at Uttam Nagar in Delhi. Nonso was reportedly arraigned in a local court on Wednesday December 25, after failing to  produce a passport, visa or any other document regarding his stay in India or Chandigarh.

    Men of the Indian Police Force have arrested a 39-year-old suspected Nigerian drug dealer identified as Chinedu Onyedinma.

    WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that policemen in Goa district on Sunday December 1st, received information that Onyedinma was about to deliver hard drugs near Parra junction.

    According to Times of India Report, the police acting on the tipoff, waited for him to arrive. Upon sighting the police, Onyedinma took to his heels, abandoning the scooter he rode to the point of delivery.

    The police engaged him in a hot chase and caught up with him after a 1km pursuit.  After a thorough search was conducted on him, 10.48g of cocaine, worth $1,115(80,000 Rupees) was found on him.

    He is said to have confessed to being involved in a drug trafficking syndicate.

    Police say Onyedinma is the second Nigerian to be arrested by the crime branch team in two days. On Saturday November 30th, the police force arrested 43 year-old Nigerian man, Lucky Ekoemeye in Morjim, with 8g cocaine. He was arrested based on a tip-off.

    A 35-year-old woman was tortured while being held illegally at a police station in India, a man who claimed to be her brother-in-law has said.

    According to Metro, he said the woman was gang-raped by several police officers and had her nails ripped out after witnessing her brother being killed by Police.

    Six police officers were suspended from duties at Sardarshahar police station in the northern state of Rajasthan.

    The man said his brother, Nemichand, 22, was taken into custody and held illegally before being murdered six days later in front of his wife.

    But police denied the allegation and insisted that the man was arrested on July 6 and died the same day after being admitted to hospital.

    Nemichand and his wife had been taken into custody on theft charges.

    The woman is now in hospital in Jaipur and her family have spoken to authorities, demanding action.

    India police claimed that some foreign nationals, especially Africans, were engaged in smuggling of narcotics and now the police is tightening its noose upon them.

    The 27-year-old Nigerian is seen as a big fish by the police that claimed the accused was in touch with several Afghan nationals in Delhi and Afghanistan for the supply of contraband to drug smugglers in the national capital and Punjab.

    The police added that the accused was currently residing in Delhi and headed a gang of drug smugglers, who are all African nationals. The police added that he came on a bus to Kiratpur where he was to deliver the contraband. The police claimed to have recovered a bus ticket from him.

    SSP Rupnagar, Swapan Sharma, said that the police were now on the trail of other members of the gang.

    “We had a tip-off about the accused that he is about to deliver the consignment of drugs. Investigations revealed that the arrested Nigerian was in regular touch with more than 25 drug peddlers in various districts of Punjab. Only in the month of July, he had sold nearly 3.5kg of heroin and 60g of ICE in the state.”

    The police claimed that now the focus is on cracking the modus operandi of the gang headed by the accused who was operating mainly in Chander Vihara, Uttam Nagar and Dwarka areas of Delhi.

    The police claimed that the accused is very cunning and uses social media platforms to deliver drugs.

    The SSP added that amid the reports of foreign nationals indulging in large-scale smuggling of drugs, there were strict directives by the chief minister to trace and nab all such foreigners involved in drug smuggling.

    Among the foreigners arrested under NDPS Act, around 50 Africans, of which 42 were Nigerians, have been arrested in 2017 while 39 cases of drugs were registered against the foreigners for allegedly supplying drugs. A total of 6.38kg of heroin had been seized from the suspects in these cases.

    Similarly, in 2018, a total 20 cases have so far been registered under which around 24 Africans, including 42 Nigerians were nabbed along with the total seizure of 21.55 kg of heroin and 06 kg of opium.
