TRIBUTE: Oladimeji “Ola Dips,” an Ogun-born rapper and ex-Reminisce signee who passed away while seeking peace

Death is a treacherous entity.  The grim reaper has no relationships that would stop him from taking the victim’s life. You can dine with the grim reaper and still be escorted to the hades. We find death quite unsettling because we are only mortals. It terrifies us to consider our own mortality.

Death is always there, no matter how hard we attempt to run from it. The grim reaper prevailed over Oladipupo Oladimeji, a 28-year-old Nigerian rapper better known by his stage name ‘Ola Dips’. At last, the terrifying notion of death gripped him.

The Nigerian rapper ‘Oladips’ could not have imagined that a third party would later release the musical track when he was lamenting the tragic death of Oladimeji Aloba ‘Mohbad’ and announced that he would delay the release of both tracks that were recorded in memory of his late colleague.

He intended to release the song following the raucous stories that encapsulated Mohbad’s demise, but he passed away before things could come to an end. It’s possible that Ola Dips doesn’t love Williams Shakespeare. Had he read his well-known statement, “Everything that lives must die,”

Merely two months had passed since the contentious passing of Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, when another tragedy hit the Nigerian music industry. The tragic death of Oladipupo Oladimeji, popularly known as Ola Dips, a Nigerian rapper, occurred on November 14, 2023. After declaring to one of his pals in public that he was in urgent need of medical attention, he supposedly passed away on the way to the hospital.

Oladipupo Oladimeji, often known as “Ola Dips,” met a tragic end, demonstrating how uncertain and unexpected the future may be. Planning for the future will only lead to disappointment because death is always around, waiting to claim its next victim. It gives his victim the ability to sense impending death. Ola Dips’s situation was also not unique. He sang of his premonition of his impending death. He was mistaken to believe that the grim reaper would forget his day of departure if he sang it a lovely song. Death was Ola Dips’s traitor.

The Lalakukulala crooner released a song called “Die Young” prior to his passing. He maintained that humans take care of the deceased and compete with the living. He also prayed not to pass away too soon in the most recent song to be released. His anxieties had already overcome him. He used blackmail to coerce the grim reaper, but he was unaware that circumstances can occasionally outweigh the death agent. We lost Oladipupo Oladimeji to the icy grip of death with heavy hearts.

Despite the agony of his passing, we find solace in his brief life’s remarkable accomplishments. Rising from the streets of Ogun State, he made a name for himself and used his unique talents to break into the music industry.

Although he rose to fame, he was unable to handle the distractions that came with it. He was depressed, dark, and unsettled. He was living in darkness for two years. He desired independence and tranquility, but his mind was caged. He ultimately died while pursuing peace.

We honor his personal struggles to achieve and leave his name permanently engraved in our hearts through heartfelt music while we grieve the tragic loss.

    Early Life and Education

Oladipupo Oladimeji popularly known as ‘Oladips’ was born on 24th of March, 1995. His parents are Mr and Mrs. Oladipupo. He is a native of Ogun State and resides in Lagos before his demise.

He is a graduate of the Economics Department from the University of Jos, Plateau state. There are no records of his primary and secondary schools as at the time of filing this report.

    Career

The narrative of ‘Ola Dips’ debut into the music business is reminiscent of the experiences of several young, gifted musicians who persevered through great sacrifice. He began his musical career at the age of sixteen as a text battler and rose to fame in Facebook rap fights.

He performed a cover of a Drake and Trey Songs song, to great acclaim on the streets. Don’t Let Dagrin Down, a song he wrote for the late Dagrin, is one of his amazing songs that has garnered a lot of love.

He made a breakthrough with the song “Don’t Let Dagrin Down.” Reminisce signed him to LRR/EDGE Records shortly after the song’s debut, and he received a call from them. Before dropping Lalalukulala, which was wildly popular and the song gained enormous popularity, he released Bounce, starring the label boss Reminisce, while still signed to the record label.

The news that Ola Dips has canceled his contract with LRR/EDGE Records stunned fans of the Nigerian music scene on July 1, 2019. He then released a song criticizing Label boss Reminisce, accusing him of acting unethically and entering into a fraudulent contract.

He said this occurred because his career had not taken off as he had anticipated, that his music career had received less funding than he had anticipated, and that the record company had simply offered assistance rather than a partnership.

While quitting the label after being duped, Ola Dips stated in the song that he only had ₦23,000, or roughly $63 in his account.
