According to Marcus Tullius Cicero, history is indeed the witness of the times, the light of truth.

When we tell our stories, we must do it bravely and mindfully apply the knowledge gained from prior encounters. In order to form fresh opinions and meticulously document the past, we must also take note of the past.

WITHIN NIGERIA highlighted two significant events that occured on April 1 in the history of the country, Nigeria.

Orubebe apologised for outburst at Election Results’ Collation Centre

On this day, April 1 in 2015, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe. apologised for the outburst he expressed while the collation of Nigeria’s presidential election results was on-going at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja.

    Hon. Orubebe

Mr Orubebe had accused the Chairman of the Independent National electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega of being ” tribalistic, selective and partial” in dealing with issues of irregularities raised during the just-concluded presidential and National Assembly elections.

He said his action was as a result of frustration, triggered by alleged refusal of the INEC to take his party’s petition.

    Apologies to fellow Nigerians

“My colleague came here and approached him gently about the petition and he told my colleague to go and give it to his secretary.

“We were surprised that yesterday, the secretary came and threw the paper at my colleague and the chairman said that he was not going to take the petition. So we were wondering that, in a position that we are talking about providing the best for the people of this country, what we expect from the commission is fair and equal treatment for any political party,” Mr Orubebe said.

Buhari, Osinbajo received ‘Certificates of Return’ from INEC as President-elect and Vice-President-elect

On this day, April 1 in 2015, Nigeria’s president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari issued a Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The chairman of INEC, Attahiru Jega, handed the certificate to Mr. Buhari, and the vice president-elect, Yemi Osinbajo.

Mr. Buhari defeated President Goodluck Jonathan in the presidential election held Saturday.

Speaking after receiving the certificate, Mr. Buhari said “Change has finally come” to Nigeria.

He said Nigeria’s “long night has passed”.

According to Maya Angelou, history, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.

History is not intended to be disregarded. The events of the past are collected in history. When we go back in time, we think about the negative or positive occurrences that shaped those moments.

WITHIN NIGERIA highlighted five significant events that happened on March 8 in Nigeria history in an effort to raise awareness for enlightenment and educational purposes.

Fela Anikulapo was re-arrested over suspicion of murder

On this date, 8th of March in 1993, Fela Anikulapo Kuti was arrested for the second time over suspicion of murder.

Recall that the Afro-beat legend and four members of his Afrika ’70 organisation were accused of a conspiracy to kill one Adesanwo Shokoya by flogging him to death and they were firstly arrested in January 21, 1993.

Allegations leveled against the Afro-beat legend indicated that Fela gave the sum of six thousand Naira to three of his workers including the late Sokoya for some jobs at the popular afrika Shrine.

Fela was said to have felt cheated with the work quality and allegedly ordered them to be taken to his Ikeja residence where he had their feet and hands tied. They were also kept at the upstairs balcony and denied food and water.

According to the prosecution, Fela allegedly ordered the three men to be brought downstairs on the third day for further interrogation and each of them was lashed 48 strokes of cable.

It was further alleged that the late Sokoya collapsed at the 30th stroke but was continuously flogged until he died.

Fela vehemently denied the accusations and it was reported that the late Sokoya collapsed during fracas among shrine workers.

The charges were eventually dropped as they were not substantial to prove Fela guilty and the Afro beat legend was released.

Bandits killed nineteen security agents in Danko Wasagu, Kebbi

On this date, 8th of March in 2022, bandits reportedly killed 19 security agents in the entourage of the Kebbi State deputy governor, Samaila Yombe, in Kanya in Dangu Wasagu Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the tragic incident happened during a visit by the deputy governor to areas in the state affected by banditry.

Multiple sources revealed that the bandits had targetted the deputy governor, Mr Yombe, who is from Dabai in Zuru Local Government Area.

Suspected herdsmen on reprisal killed over 26 in Taraba attacks

On this date, 8th of March in 2022, more than 26 people including children and women were feared killed and scores of others injured when suspected armed Fulani herders attacked Tor-Damisa community in Donga Local government Area of Taraba State.

According to residents, hundreds of houses were burnt and property worth millions of naira destroyed in the attack

It was also gathered that the attack was in reaction to attack on a Fulani man in the area who was allegedly shot on the leg by a suspected Tiv farmer.

Attackers burned an Ogun traditional ruler to death in Abeokuta North

On this date, 8th of March in 2022, the Baale of Olowe Gbagura in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Chief Akin Muheedeen was reportedly burnt to death by yet-to-be identified persons.

The incident occurred about one month after the Olu of Agodo, Oba Ayinde Odetola, was burnt to death in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

    Oluyemi Oluleke Osinbajo’s birth date

On this date, 8th of March in 1957, Professor Yemi Osinbajo was born into the family of Opeoluwa Osinbajo in Creek Hospital, Lagos.

The Ogun-born politician is a graduate of the University of Lagos and London School of Economics. Shortly thereafter, he started teaching at University of Lagos while practicing law until 1999.

That year, Osinbajo was appointed Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the cabinet of Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu. After serving during both of Tinubu’s four-year terms, Osinbajo left government in 2007 and returned to law and lecturing along with preaching in the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

He is a Nigerian lawyer, professor, and politician who is the 14th and current Vice President of Nigeria since 2015. In April 2022, he announced his intention to run for the APC nomination for President of Nigeria in the 2023 presidential election. He was third in the APC presidential primaries held in June 2022 with a total of 235 votes from the delegates

  • 2023: Bola Tinubu and enemies of his life-time ambition

2023: Bola Tinubu and enemies of his life-time ambition

Will Tinubu be able to escape his opponents’ traps and accomplish his life’s goal? I don’t know the answer to this. I’ve read the opinions of the Jagaban of Borgu kingdom’s primary adherents as well. Their views only served to strengthen the case for acceptance and potential success if elected. Nobody was able to definitively predict if the renowned figurehead for progressive politics in the south-west zone will succeed in his goals.

I am not unfamiliar with Tinubu’s political strategy. Actually, as a candidate, he has never lost a poll. He was elected to the Senate during the brief Third Republic.

As the first governor of Lagos State following the restoration of civil rule, he won the governorship election in January 1999 by defeating aspirants like Funsho Williams and Wahab Dosunmu at the Alliance for Democracy (AD) guber primary.

Tinubu will break three curses if he wins the 2023 presidential election with good luck. He will be the first local politician from the south-west region to have defied all obstacles and successfully manipulated regional politics into the Aso-Rock. He would become Nigeria’s first non-Ogun native president and the first two-term governor of a south-western state.

Some political pundits have expressed skepticism on Bola Tinubu’s chances of winning the 2023 election. Will Tinubu be able to escape the pitfalls that claimed the political lives of his role models in politics? Because of the political upheaval, Obafemi Awolowo and Moshood Abiola Kasimawo (MKO) were both unable to fulfill their lifelong goals. None of the two ever briefly held the presidency of Nigeria.

Following his announcement that he would like to run for president in 2023, Tinubu experienced a protracted wave of severe criticism that never stopped. He was asked a number of scathing questions regarding his upbringing, education, and work. The opponents of his life’s work go beyond politicians who represent the interests of other parties, it becomes clear upon closer inspection.

There are certain political figures that once sat at the same table as him but declined to help Tinubu win the presidency. He engaged in political conflict with certain current players and they chose not to accompany him on his ascent to Aso-Rock.

Some of the strategic players who helped him win in the past are now silent. To prevent him from achieving his life goal, these close associates have banded together with rivals from other parties, including enemies he has amassed over the years as a result of his active involvement in politics. They all remained silent because they either had no confidence in his ability to lead Nigeria or they didn’t share his values.

However, Tinubu views the 2023 presidential election as more than just a race. He hopes to accomplish two goals at once. He breaks records and aspires to be president. Why is he using the same strategies that failed his seniors when playing his final political cards? He only wants to deliver a message.

What Obafemi Awolowo and Moshood Abiola Kasimawo (MKO) were unable to do can be done. He wanted to create a statue of the first political mystery who rose to the presidency through regional politics in addition to ruling Nigeria.

Aside from political disagreements, he has created animosity with Awolowo devotees who think no one should be more accomplished than him. If Tinubu wins the presidency, he will have outdone Awolowo in terms of political success.

Along with taking over the politics of the south-west and installing his friends one by one in south-west states, Tinubu accomplished more than only become the governor of Lagos. The presidency was never held by Obafemi Awolowo.

The emergence and declaration of the “lord” of Lagos politics would also offend some tribalistic elite who only want the next president to come from Ogun State, the same state that produced regional leader Obafemi Awolowo, president and head of state Olusegun Obasanjo, interim president Ernest Shonekan, and vice president Yemi Osinbajo, two-time vice president of the country. If Ogun State is not the lucky target and this important office is designated to the south-west, these elites favor any tribe.

Ogun native and 1979 presidential candidate Obafemi Awolowo selected Philip Umeadi as his running mate. They both identified as Christians and were natives of the nation’s South. Baba Gana Kingibe was selected by Ogun native and presidential candidate Moshood Olawale Kasimawo (MKO) as his running partner in the 1993 election. Each is a Muslim.

Given the terrible position the nation is in right now, Tinubu is starting a more harsh, difficult, and challenging political mission. To pursue his life goal, he is towing a highly precarious and sensitive framework. Both Tinubu and Shettima, his rival, are Muslims.

Will Tinubu be able to avoid political pitfalls, unlike his elders?

In addition to fighting opponents from other political parties, Tinubu would also purge his home of political parasites who support his politics of pockets. Additionally, he must free his tail from the traps set by the political snoops with whom he shares a tent. Before persuading Nigerians, he must fix his leaking roofs if he truly wants to win and set records.

A clearer look into the matter reveals that close associates who have shared good or bad moments with him in the past and now in conflict with his ambition release scathing tales about him while his opponents from other political groups amplify these tales.

Bola Tinubu, in all honesty, is a very contentious individual with a murky past. Bola Tinubu’s anecdote is a common one among Nigerian politicians. They don’t have impeccable or clear records. Nigerian politicians thrive on forged profiles, from certificate scandals to forgeries. Bola Tinubu does not stand out.

This is a significant challenge for him, in my opinion. It is crucial how he plans to change Nigerians’ perceptions of the publicly accessible records. It is also important how he plans to win in 2023 presidential election. Will he be able to scale through traps?

  • FLASHBACK: Witches’ association cautioned Osinbajo not to contest for 2023 presidency

FLASHBACK: Witches’ association cautioned Osinbajo not to contest for 2023 presidency

The White Witches Association of Nigeria (WWAN) on 29th of May, 2022 cautioned Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo against running for the Presidency in 2023.

This was made known by Dr Iboi Oshiomhole, the spokesman of the witches and the former board member of the Edo State Traditional Council during the administration of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

According to WWAN, God did not program Osinbajo to become Nigeria’s President in 2023; hence he would not win if he decided to contest.

Okhue also revealed that Osinbajo would conclude the mission God sent him on May 29, 2023.

He implored the Vice President to return to the pulpit where God has a higher assignment for him than being the “Head of State.”

“God sent him to deliver a message to Nigerians. He has done that and he should go back to the church. God will use him in a bigger way other than being a head of state,” Okhue told the Independent.

WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has publicly stated his intention to run for President in 2023.

WITHIN NIGERIA also reported that presidential aspirant and former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary elections.

  • Strong political network and other factors that drove Tinubu to victory at the APC presidential primary

Strong political network and other factors that drove Tinubu to victory at the APC presidential primary

It is no longer news that a former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu won the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after a stiff contest with Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi among others.

The presidential primaries of the ruling party which took place between June 7 and 8 at the Eagle Square in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) gave the adhoc delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the inalienable rights to take part in the process in electing a standard-bearer for the party in the 2023 presidential election.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that a total of 2,229 delegates selected across the entire country of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) participated in the primaries but 93 delegates from Akwa Ibom did not participate in the primaries as a result of a court order.

Following the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the presidential candidate of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) after the primaries, he will face the likes of Atiku Abubakar, candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Peter Obi, candidate of Labour Party (LP); Omoyele Sowore, candidate of African Action Congress (AAC); Adewole Adebayo, candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) among others.

However, the victory of Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the APC presidential primaries did not come cheaply. It was a victory shaped by notable events. These events happened barely five days to the APC presidential primaries.

    STRONG POLITICAL NETWORK

Bola Ahmed Tinubu fully began his journey into national politics in 2007 when Atiku Abubakar contested for president under the platform of Action Congress. The presidential election which was a stiff contest primarily between late Umaru Musa Yaradua, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party; Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Action Congress (AC).

His patronage in 2007 presidential election which made him relate to progressive politicians of the Northern extraction and huge contributions to the formation of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014 gave him a leap ahead of other presidential aspirants. Inarguably, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has a stronger political network than other presidential aspirants.

    INSISTENCE OF APC GOVERNORS

Barely three days to the presidential primaries of the ruling party, governors elected under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) insisted that the presidential ticket of the party must be zoned to the south. This was firstly contested against by some northern governors but it was later agreed upon by all except Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello who is also a presidential aspirant.

The quick move of the APC governors when the national chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu reportedly announced to other executives that he met with President Muhammadu Buhari and they both agreed that Senate President, Ahmed Lawan is the consensus candidate of the ruling party. 14 out of 19 governors in the north who are of the APC extraction met with President Muhammadu Buhari and resolved that the presidential ticket must be zoned to the south and only Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello was against the decision.

    PRESIDENT BUHARI’S PERCEIVED NEUTRALITY

Eventhough President Muhammadu Buhari claimed to have an ‘anointed successor’ in one of his interviews but his actions towards the party primaries proved otherwise.

President Buhari in several meetings declared that the ruling party should produce a consensus candidate but did not disclose his preferred aspirant.

Buhari made no move to achieve its intention until the national party chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu claimed that he met with President Buhari and both agreed on Senator Ahmed Lawan as the party’s consensus candidate barely 48 hours after Atiku Abubakar emerged as presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This generated a lot of controversy and nearly divided the ruling party owing to reactions from APC governors, party chieftains and presidential aspirants especially from the south. The resolution of 13 Northern APC governors except Yahaya Bello and the denial of the presidency via a press statement signed by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari calmed the situation.

    FRUITFUL NEGOTIATIONS

It was a shocking and unexpected moment for many political analysts when Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, a former governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, a former Speaker of House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole and other four presidential aspirants stepped down for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

It is widely believed that these presidential aspirants especially the ones from the South West extraction stepped down for Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a result of several meetings, appeals and possible negotiations led by former governors Olusegun Osoba, Bisi Akande and other party leaders in the South West to produce a consensus candidate.

The decisions of Governor Kayode Fayemi, Ibikunle Amosun to step down for Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the support he received from some APC governors like Kano Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje; Ondo Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu among others truly shaped his walk into victory.

  • We’ll support scientists research on using river blindness drug to treat COVID-19, says Osinbajo

We’ll support scientists research on using river blindness drug to treat COVID-19, says Osinbajo

Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s vice president has appreciated and welcomed efforts by a team of Nigerian professors and scientists investigating the effectiveness of Ivermectin, a drug used in treating river blindness, in the prevention and treatment of the Coronavirus disease.

The team, which is composed of Nigerian scholars at home and abroad, has also submitted their report on the usefulness of the drug to the World Health Organisation which has already appointed a Peer Review expert from the United Kingdom.

Speaking while being briefed on the report by a team of scientists led by Prof. Femi Babalola, the Principal investigator, and Prof. Chris Bode, the Chief Medical Director of LUTH on Monday, January 11, the Vice President expressed excitement that Nigeria and Nigerians “are at the cutting edge of scientific research into the COVID-19 treatment.”

According to him, “we have an opportunity here and I am so fascinated to hear this drug has been used in the treatment of River Blindness in this country.”

While commending the efforts of the team, Prof. Osinbajo added that with the report, Nigeria is at an advantage both in knowledge and availability of the drug, especially since Ivermectin has been found useful not only in the treatment of COVID-19 but also as a prophylactic medication.

He disclosed that the Federal Government will explore further ways to support the research for the benefit of Nigerians and humanity generally, while also advancing the effective funding of scientific research in the country.

Members of the group named IVERCOVID Research Group are the Principal Investigator, Prof. Femi Babalola, an Ophthalmologist and surgeon; the Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Prof. Chris Bode; the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Council at LUTH, Prof. Lanre Adeyemo; a US-based Clinical Pharmacologist, Prof. Adesuyi Ajayi; two project virologists: Prof. S.A Omilabu and Dr. Olumuyiwa Salu; and also the Project Coordinator, Dr. Felix Alakaloko.

Both Prof. Babalola and the CMD, LUTH commended the Buhari Presidency for encouraging the research and thanked the Vice President for his personal role and support.

The report is titled, “A randomised controlled trial for the repurposing of Ivermectin in the management of COVID-19,” and highlights are discussed below:

The research, carried out in the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) was undertaken following the report of a 5,000-fold reduction in viral load by Australian workers with in-vitro use of Ivermectin on COVID-19 in culture.

The PI has worked extensively with Ivermectin on the Onchocerciasis-River Blindness control programme, through which many Nigerians have used Ivermectin.

    FINDINGS

The study revealed that the mechanism of action of Ivermectin, include “Inhibiting viral entry into cells nucleus; and “Direct suppression of viral RNA load of SARS CoV 2,” among others.

Ivermectin is orally absorbed with higher absorption as a solution better than tablets, and “The Mean Residence Time” (MRT) is 3.4 days. This informs the suggested frequency of dosing, i.e. twice a week.

The research’s Null hypothesis noted that: “Safe doses of Ivermectin are not useful in the treatment of patients with virology proven COVD-19 disease, does not lower viral load, and does not shorten time to negativity, neither does it cause improvement in clinical parameters when compared to Lopinavir/Ritonavir/Placebo.”

But its Alternative Hypothesis revealed that “Safe doses of Ivermectin are useful in the treatment of patients with virology proven COVID-19 disease, lowering the viral load, shortening time to negativity, and causing improvement in clinical parameters when compared with Lopinavir/Ritonavir/Placebo.”

    RESULTS

In its results so far, the Study noted that the randomisation was effective based on the distribution of age, sex and some clinical presentation at baseline such as cough and fever.

The overall results showed that the “Days-To-Negative (DTN) reduced by 3.8 days overall. While a few patients are negative by day two, 50 per cent are negative by day 5.”

The study indicated that Clinical trials of Ivermectin have been carried out in at least 21 countries worldwide, including Nigeria. It referenced the “Meta-analysis of clinical trials of Ivermectin to treat COVID-19 infection” by Dr. Andrew Hill, Department of Pharmacology, University of Liverpool, UK.

Highlighting the practical applications, the Study proposed that “Ivermectin should be considered for adoption into the uniform treatment guidelines of COVID- 19 in Nigeria,” noting the “potential use of ivermectin as prophylaxis Pending the rollout of vaccination programs or alongside it.”

However, the Study emphasized that Ivermectin “is not meant to replace other COVID-19 measures such as social distancing, face masking and hygiene, or vaccinations,” adding that, “It is possibly an additional tool which can be deployed to fight the pandemic.”

The group stated that it has forwarded a report of its findings to NAFDAC.

NPHCDA Boss, Shuaib: We will like to see Buhari and Osinbajo take COVID-19 vaccine in public

Faisal Shuaib, the Executive Director of National Primary Health Care Development Agency on Thursday stated that it will be nice to see President Buhari, Vice-President Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha and other top government officials take the COVID-19 vaccine in the full glare of the public.

This is coming as Nigeria expects the first batch of COVID19 vaccines by the end of January,

Shuaib made the statement while speaking at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja on Thursday, January 7.

According to him, such action by leaders of the nation will send a message to Nigerians that the vaccine is safe.

    He said;

“On Tuesday, I had mentioned that we will like to see a situation where Mr President, the Vice President, the SGF, critical leaders come and take the vaccine in full glare of the public to demonstrate that this vaccine is safe.

So, we have to make provisions for those. But even in developed countries, what we have seen is that apart from the prioritisation of health workers, you have to also identify critical leaders that you don’t want them to be wiped off by the virus.

For example, in warfare, if you want to destroy your enemies, you look for specific leaders: captains, the generals, once you decapitate them, then the soldiers will become weak.

So, as much as possible you do not want to also leave your leaders vulnerable to COVID-19. It doesn’t mean you want to prioritise politicians, that is not correct. I emphasised during the last briefing that we will prioritise our health workers because they are the ones in direct contacts with cases in isolation units.”

2021 prophecy: Osinbajo will become Nigerian president, Ghanian prophet predicts

Prophet Nigel Gaisie, a Ghana-based pastor has predicted that Nigeria’s vice president, Yemi Osinbajo will become president in 2021.

This prediction was made by Gaisie, who is the founder of the Prophetic Hill Chapel during his crossover service on Thursday.

“Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will become president,” he said.

Prophet Gaisie also predicted trouble in the Ashanti Kingdom of Ghana.

He said: “I saw darkness around the Ashanti kingdom.”

The prophet assured of peace on the international scene.

He also predicted that a famous preacher would die in 2021.

“The world will enjoy peace, but America will have a terrorist attack,” he said.

  • Osinbajo, state governors express concern over rising COVID-19 cases

Osinbajo, state governors express concern over rising COVID-19 cases

Fears and concerns have been expressed by the National Economic Council (NEC) over the rising number  COVID-19 cases in the country.

Recall that on Thursday, the country recorded 930 new COVID-19 cases while there has been a huge surge of infections in the past one week.

The NEC held its monthly meeting on Thursday, presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

In a statement after the meeting, Laolu Akande, senior special assistant to the vice-president on media said the council was alarmed that the current trends are surpassing the levels reached during the lockdown.

“Today at its monthly meeting, the National Economic Council, NEC, received a briefing on the coronavirus disease pandemic in Nigeria and notes with serious concern the increasing number of cases in many States across the country,” the statement reads.

“NEC is alarmed that the current trends are now approaching or surpassing the levels reached during the lockdown imposed at the height of the epidemic earlier in the year.

“The trends also show that more and more younger people are getting infected. While many of the young victims may be asymptomatic or recover without serious illness, they pass the virus to older and more vulnerable people, especially people with pre-existing health conditions, who develop serious illnesses and may easily lose their lives in the process.

“Sadly, the country is now experiencing a huge resurgence of COVID-19 patients needing intensive care and the existing health facilities are fast becoming overwhelmed.

“NEC notes that this increase is being accelerated by non-compliance with the non-pharmaceutical interventions advised by government, including the wearing of masks, limiting of gatherings, especially indoors and the washing/sanitisation of hands.

“NEC, therefore, wishes to reemphasise the importance of these measures. Particularly as we approach the end of the year and the social gatherings associated with the holiday season, we must avoid activities or behaviour that may aggravate the situation and necessitate another lockdown.”

The council also enlarged its COVID-19 ad-hoc committee led by Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta state, and mandated them to consider and propose additional measures to manage the current situation.
