Elder Kalu U. Kalu, Chairman of the LIMCAF Board of Trustees, stated that the organization was committed to providing a platform for young artists in the country to thrive in their chosen profession.
This was expressed by Kalu on Monday during the LIMCAF 2021 Grand Finale Exhibition in Enugu.
He claimed that the annual art exhibition had aided in the development of numerous budding painters into well-known professionals whose works were making waves around the world.
The Chairman noted that many artists were unable to participate in the 2021 Art Festival due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but he was pleased with the works on display.
LIMCAF Patron and Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, expressed regret that Covid-19 had harmed the Art Festival’s patronage, as the 2020 edition was canceled due to the pandemic.
Igwe Achebe, on the other hand, encouraged young artists to see the pandemic as an opportunity to be innovative and adaptive in their art works, in order to flow with the realities of time.
Mr. Uche Onuorah, one of the Art Festival’s key partners, revealed that he collaborated with LIMCAF to promote the works of young and emerging artists in Nigeria.
Onuorah stated his intention to provide one year of online training to the best ten artists to assist them in digitizing their works.
In an interview, the Festival’s overall winner, Mr Chichetam Okolonta, expressed gratitude to LIMCAF for the opportunity to participate in the art exhibition, which he had hoped to win as a first-timer.
The event’s highlight was the presentation of N250,000 cheques to five LIMCAF artists, as well as a N500,000 cheque to the overall winner, Okolonta, and other endowment awards.
Life in My City Festival, founded in 2007, is an annual celebration of creativity that features young Nigerian talents.
It is Nigeria’s largest gathering of young artists, patrons, scholars, gallery owners, and other stakeholders in the visual arts, and it takes place in 11 exhibition centers across the country.
