Dr Samuel Nzekwe, a former President of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), has advised the Federal Government to step up efforts to provide the infrastructure required for the digital economy to thrive.
Nzekwe gave the advice to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ota, Ogun.
He stated that the digital economy would not achieve the desired results unless the necessary infrastructure was in place to drive the policy.
“The country requires an enabling environment, such as stable power supply and an improved network, for the digital economy to function effectively.”
“However, the Federal Government should redouble its efforts to ensure that the challenges facing stable power supply are overcome,” he said.
Nzekwe emphasized the importance of the government attempting more in the area of electricity provision, stating that anything produced with a generator would not be internationally competitive due to the high cost of production.
He emphasized the importance of putting in place infrastructure in order for the economy to begin to improve.
This, he claims, will increase production capacity and stimulate economic activity in the country.
The former ANAN president praised the Federal Government for providing intervention funds for some Small and Medium Enterprises, but emphasized the importance of adequate infrastructure for the funds to have a positive impact on the economy.
