Aminu Tambuwal, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF), has stated that restructuring is essential for Nigeria’s survival.
Tambuwal made the remarks during a two-day PDP National Retreat in Abuja on Tuesday, with the theme “It’s Time to Rescue Nigeria.”
Tambuwal, who is also the governor of Sokoto State, added that Nigeria must embrace technology in order to combat insecurity, unemployment, and other issues facing the country.
“Nigeria’s polity, economy, security, and ways of doing things must be restructured.” It must accept relative autonomy and power decentralization.
“This will galvanize the energies of our people, particularly the young.” It is past time for Nigeria to bloom. With all hands on deck, it is possible.
“Second, we must embrace technology and innovation as a way of life.” Youth unemployment will be solved by technology.
“Technology will improve agriculture, health, industrialization, and education, among other things, and it has implications and impacts on all aspects of our lives.”
“In this regard, we continue to condemn the Twitter ban as a regressive action that should never have occurred,” Tambuwal said.
He went on to say that the PDP was the only credible alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and that it could not afford to fail Nigerians.
“We must maintain hope. We’ll be fine. As Obama would say, “Yes, we can.”
“The revitalized PDP will be true to our national anthem’s words, ‘To build a nation where peace and justice shall reign.'”
Tambuwal went on to say that the PDP was poised to write a new chapter in Nigeria’s history.
According to him, the PDP has learned its lesson and is now poised to take power in 2023, providing hope for Nigeria.
“A rickety vehicle will not transport Nigeria to its destination as a nation with great potential for greatness and progress.”
“The PDP is now a well-oiled, serviced vehicle that will deliver the Nigeria of our dreams.”
“It is, indeed, time to Rescue and Rebuild Nigeria,” Tambuwal declared.
The governor, who described Nigeria’s problems as man-made, stated that resolving them would necessitate a focused, determined, knowledgeable, and patriotic organization of like minds to build the critical mass required for a great leap forward.
“Yes, it necessitates vision and disciplined leadership.”
He cited unemployment, insecurity, low education, inflation, a weak naira, corruption, nepotism, ethnic and religious bigotry as some of the issues confronting the country.
Prof. Jerry Gana, former Minister of Information, advised PDP leaders to work together as a team in his presentation titled “An Overview of the PDP.”
Gana also urged PDP leaders to be committed to good governance, to respect one another, and to demonstrate a willingness to serve the people.
“Translating visions into reality is a difficult process; leaders must have a clear sense of priorities.”
“In fact, effective leadership has a lot to do with the wisdom of deciding on a set of priorities.” You can’t do it all at once.
“As a result, you must seek wisdom to determine the priority order.” “Wisdom is thus a valuable asset for good leaders,” Gana said.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki were among those in attendance.
Former Cross River governor Liyel Imoke and Chairman of the PDP Disciplinary Committee, Chief Tom Ikimi, were also present.
