The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists to exercise patience and drive with caution on the highway to stem road crashes during the Yuletide.
Mr Siikiru Alonge, the Ore Unit Commander of FRSC, Ondo State, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ore.
Alonge noted that there was always high vehicular movement during festivities which makes most drivers, especially commercial drivers, want to go to many trips to make more money.
He said that the zeal to go to many trips as possible makes most drivers to drive recklessly and carelessly on the highway which often resulted in crashes that could be avoided.
“We are approaching the Yuletide period when we experience high vehicular movement on the highway. Most drivers throw caution onto the wind because they want to go to many trips as possible in order to get more money”
“Motorists and other road users should always exercise patience in order to reduce their speed on the highway to avoid crashes which can be avoided,” Alonge said.
The FRSC boss, however, urged drivers to always obey traffic rules and regulations on the highway.
He warned that any driver that contravened traffic rules would be arrested and prosecuted.
