Three organizations are collaborating to promote indigenous Nigerian products in the United States of America.
The Committee of Youth Mobilisation and Sensitisation (CYMS), the Organization of Youth in International, Trade and Commerce (OY-ITC), and “BUY-Naija Projects” are among them.
Mr Obinna Nwaka, Director-General of CYMS, said in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja that the move was made to help with the implementation of the Nigeria-US Trade and Commerce summit scheduled for February 2022.
Nwaka stated that the partnership also aimed to encourage diversification of Nigeria’s economy away from oil and white collar jobs in order to increase revenue and ensure self-sufficiency among the country’s teeming youths.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment’s OY-ITC and “BUY-Naija Projects” focus on empowering Nigerian youths.
Nwaka expressed hope that the collaboration would provide young entrepreneurs involved in the production of “Made-in-Nigeria” products and other services with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
He went on to say that CYMS would encourage entrepreneurs to succeed in their fields after the exhibition.
He recalled that in the past, the organization had worked with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council and other international bodies to mobilize entrepreneurs to participate in capacity building.
He stated that young people wanted to contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth by using their skills.
“Oftentimes, their major challenge has been a lack of a business-friendly environment, a lack of a sense of belonging, and an inability or impatience to obtain necessary documentation from regulatory bodies,” he said.
Nwaka also emphasized the importance of waiving some “bottleneck” requirements for prospective entrepreneurs to register and run their businesses.
