Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has stated that any illegal structures found on the government property, particularly in Yola, will be demolished.
The governor made the remarks after reviewing a 2.5-kilometer road project in Yola on Monday.
Philip Maken Road and Links at Karewa, Masakare in Yola North were the roads granted by his administration in 2020.
The governor, who voiced concern with the manner in which structures were being erected in some sections of the state, cautioned that demolition was inevitable since his administration planned to create more roads in Yola.
“I am dissatisfied with the manner in which certain people create structures, obstructing official routes.”
“The government would not hesitate to take whatever harsh measures necessary to ensure access.
“Because such unlawful structures are substantially slowing down several road improvements in the state capital, the government will no longer stand by and watch,” Fintiri added.
The purpose of the inspection, he explained, was for him to witness for himself the complaint that someone had erected a house illegally on the road, impeding the contractor’s progress.
“During the inspection, I personally noticed that the house’s owner had encroached four metres beyond his property on the government road.”
“The government is dissatisfied with the development and will no longer tolerate the greedy people’s mentality,” he said.
“In the overall interest of the state and as a deterrent to others, the government would take drastic action against offenders of such acts,” Fintiri added.
He promised the people of the state that more democratic dividends would be forthcoming, as well as that the welfare of the citizens would be a major concern.
