Participants at the recently finished two-day capacity building session on website construction and hosting requested the Federal Government to give additional ICT training to aid in the promotion of its policies and programs.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Bureau of Public Reforms Service organized a website development and hosting training for over 100 civil servants (BPRS).

Some participants told NAN that the training, which concluded on Wednesday in Abuja, was extremely educational.

They urged the government to hold such programs on a regular basis in order to keep civil servants up to date on developments in the ICT sector and to apply it appropriately to improve service delivery.

According to Grace Isola of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ Software and Development Unit, the issues discussed during the training are critical to road safety management.

She promised to share what she had learned with her colleagues in order to help them improve the quality of their work.

Suleiman Abdurazaq, a Web Master with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, said the training gave him “new angles, updates, and knowledge” that would benefit his work.

Mukhtar Bala, an engineer with NAN, also praised the Bureau for organizing the training, saying he learned a lot, particularly about web security and optimization, which was a recurring issue at his workplace.

“Web security is required on any e-platform to protect your work.”

“Web security refers to any action or application that ensures that data is not exposed to cyber criminals who alter your documents and add false information to cause damage.”

Website vulnerabilities are a weakness, and I now know what to do, because a security breach on any website can cause serious damage to an organization,” he explained.

Furthermore, Safiya Hanafi, an Assistant Chief Investment Officer at the Nigeria Investment Promotion Council (NIPC), stated that she would use the knowledge to ensure the best possible use of the council’s website.

Another participant, Mr Edu Oladapo, Deputy Director ICT in NIPC, stated that the training taught him the value of “shared and dedicated services,” which are better and more cost effective for a government office.

He claims that shared services reduce the load on servers and aid in their security.

Oladapo praised NIDTA for promoting indigenous ICT products.

According to Ekong Joseph, Senior Manager, Nigeria Electricity Liability Management Limited, the use of ICT in MDAs will reduce work load and accelerate service delivery.
