Coalition solicit support for Lagos Peace Walk

The Defend Lagos Coalition urged Lagos residents on Friday to support Gov. Babajide Sanwo-peace Olu’s walk as a “healing balm” for the #EndSARS movement’s aftermath.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Sanwo-Olu revealed on Tuesday a plan to organize a peace walk in December to commemorate the #EndSARS movement.

NAN reported that, the Defend Lagos Coalition is a coalition of more than 60 civil society organizations in Lagos State.

Mr Declan Ihekaire, who spoke on behalf of the groups at a news conference held at the Airport Hotel in Ikeja, said the group would walk with the governor.

Ihekaire, who is also the Convener of Activists for Good Governance, urged all peace lovers in the state to participate in the peace walk to allow genuine reconciliation and healing to begin.

“We hereby accept the governor’s invitation to participate in the planned Lagos Peace Walk.”

“We will walk shoulder to shoulder with the governor.

“We have begun sensitization and mobilization of our members from all over the state to join the walk,” he said.

He praised the governor for his statesmanship in reaching out to some leaders of the #EndSARS movement to join him on the peace walk.

Mr Nelson Ekujumi of the Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate (CPPM), Mr Gbenga Soloki of the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV), and Mr Dayo Ogunlana of the Coalition of Oodua Self-Determination Groups attended the briefing (COSEG).

Mr Razaq Oladosu-Obasola, Grassroots Democratic Initiative; Mr Elijah Ajanu-Ojo, Ideal Society Movement; and Mr Raji Rasheed, Movement for Democratic Change are among the others.
