There is no truth in the report that two students from Bashorun High School in Ibadan were turned to tubers of yam by a suspected ritualist on Friday.
Mr Abiodun Abdulramah, the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, made this clarification while speaking to students, parents, and guardians at the school during his visit.
The commissioner paid a visit to the school on Friday afternoon while on a fact-finding mission in response to a report on social media that such an incident occurred at the school.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), social media was awash with reports of how a suspected ritualist (names withheld) turned two students of the school into tubers of yam using unused pampers.
However, this instilled fear in the minds of residents, particularly parents and guardians whose children and wards attend the school.
According to Abdulramah, findings from the school administration revealed that none of the school’s students had been reported missing.
The commissioner, on the other hand, urged restraint.
He assured them that the security operatives would delve deeper into the incident to uncover the truth.
The commissioner urged the public to be patient, saying that the safety of all residents in the state was a top priority for Gov. Seyi Makinde’s administration.
