The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) South-West Caucus has expressed support for the Federal Government’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, which required all Federal Civil Service employees to be immunized.
Its Secretary, Dr Bolaji Salako, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the current COVID-19 vaccines were safe and effective, and that they would ensure the protection and well-being of all those who received them.
Salako believes that once enough people have been immunized against the virus, herd immunity will be achieved.
Vaccination, he claims, allows people to protect not only themselves but also their loved ones.
Salako was also concerned about the disregard for COVID-19 safety measures in public places.
“Many people have abandoned preventive measures such as hand washing and the use of face masks, which can contribute to the spread of the new Omicron variant,” he said.
Meanwhile, the association recently completed its third edition of the zonal games, which were held in Ekiti from November 25 to November 28.
“The Zonal Games is a biennial sporting event that drew more than 150 participants this year from the NMA’s five member-state branches in the South-West Zone, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti States.”
“The games saw a variety of track and field events, as well as indoor games of various types,” he said.
The association praised Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, for its contributions to the games’ success.
