In the 80 fire incidents recorded in the state in November, the Kano State Fire Service saved 81 lives and N60.6 million in property.
The statistics were provided by Saminu Abdullahi, the service’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), in a statement released to newsmen on Sunday in Kano.
During the period under review, 49 lives were lost and property worth N28.6 million was destroyed by fire, according to him.
“From residents of the state, the service responded to 62 rescue calls and 19 false alarms,” he added.
The majority of the fires, according to Abdullahi, were caused by careless handling of cooking gas and the use of subpar electrical appliances.
To prevent fires from spreading, he advised residents to always handle fires with caution.
The PRO also urged parents to prevent their children from swimming in open water and to closely monitor their movements.
