On Monday, a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court sentenced Paul Caleb, a 21-year-old student, to four months in prison for stealing an iPad tablet computer.
Caleb was sentenced by Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel after pleading guilty to one count of theft.
“The defendant has no reason to show why he should not be convicted; thus, I convict him for theft,” Emmanuel said.
He did, however, offer the convict an N6,000 fine and warned him to stop committing crimes.
The convict, a Barnawa Kaduna resident, stole the iPad worth N150,000.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, one Mary John, a resident of Narayi Kaduna, filed a complaint against the defendant on December 3 at the Barnawa Police Station.
According to Leo, the convict went into the complainant’s shop in Bayan Dutse Narayi with the intention of charging his phone, but instead stole her IPad.
He claimed that the convict was apprehended and turned over to police after a customer noticed him hiding the tablet computer in his cloth.
The prosecutor stated that the offense violated Section 57 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
