Under Gov. Bello Matawalle’s Youth Farmers Empowerment Scheme, Zamfara has trained 5,000 women and youths in modern fish farming.
On Sunday, the latest batch of trainees received fish farming equipment worth millions of Naira in Gusau.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the training was organized and sponsored by Sufiyanu Yuguda, the Commissioner for Finance.
The governor was represented at the distribution of equipment by the Head of Service, Kabiru-Muhammad Gayari, who urged the trainees to use the training given to them wisely.
He described the training as one of the government’s numerous empowerment programs aimed at eradicating youth unemployment and idleness and reducing their reliance on the government.
“We hope that the participants will use the skills and equipment provided to them to become self-sufficient and start their own businesses,” Gayari said.
The Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, who was in attendance, thanked the finance commissioner for sponsoring the event.
He urged other political officeholders to follow Yuguda’s example in order to reduce unemployment and poverty in the state.
Ibrahim Ma’aji, Special Adviser to Governor Matawalle on Political Matters, who represented the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Zamfara, Alhaji Tukur Danfulani, described Gov. Matawalle’s administration as youth and women oriented.
He stated that the APC is proud of the state’s government in light of the various development programs launched for the people.
Yuguda has previously stated that he had dedicated the project to Matawalle.
“This is one of the praiseworthy ideas of the Matawalle-led administration in the state to help boost income production for the poor and disadvantaged.”
“We will do everything we can to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the common man.”
“After this training, there will be a follow-up to assess the project’s sustainability so that we can register another set of beneficiaries,” Yuguda said.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Aliyu Umar and Umaima Ibrahim thanked Gov. Matawalle and Yuguda for providing them with the opportunity to better their lives.
