Four Delta State University (DELSU) students and five others who were kidnapped on Saturday have been released.

DSP Bright Edafe, spokesman for the state Police Command, confirmed the abductees’ release to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Warri on Wednesday.

The victims were abducted on the Abraka-Eku Road in the state’s Ethiope East Local Government Area.

“They’ve all been released,” Edafe said. They were probably released late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

“The kidnappers realized the cops were closing in on them.”

According to NAN, the kidnappers demanded a N5 million ransom to release the nine victims.

The DELSU Students Union Government (SUG) issued a statement condemning the kidnapping on Tuesday.

The SUG was concerned that the state government and security agencies had done nothing to prevent the recurring attacks on students and citizens on the Eku-Abraka expressway.
