The Secretary for the Federal Capital Territory Education Secretariat, Alhaji Sani El-katuzu, has vowed to sanction private school owners who violate the nationally approved curriculum for schools.
On Tuesday in Abuja, El-katuzu issued the warning shortly after receiving the official handover briefs of the secretariat from the Director of Administration and Finance, Mr Leramoh Abdulrazaq.
According to the secretary, the secretariat will no longer tolerate situations in which strange elements are introduced into schools in the name of branding.
El-katuzu also condemned the flagrant disregard for regulatory agencies’ enacted laws.
“There are some other issues I’d like to bring up, such as private school owners in the FCT who operate outside of the law.” They are not permitted to teach outside of the nationally accepted curriculum.
“In Nigeria, no school will be allowed to teach any child outside of the approved curriculum.” There are schools that use curriculum from other countries to come and teach in our schools, which we will not tolerate,” he said.
The secretary warned that the secretariat under his supervision would not recognize or protect high-ranking officials.
He emphasized the importance of all private schools collaborating with regulatory agencies in order to avoid breaking the law, saying, “We will not tolerate that.”
“My research revealed that some private schools in the Federal Capital Territory are owned by the country’s who’s who.”
” We will make no distinction between the well-off and the commoners.” “All Nigerians are equal, and we must follow the law,” he warned.
El-katuzu advised secretariat staff to brace themselves for the task ahead, as he intends to push them in order to make his mark in the education sector in the FCT.
Earlier, the secretariat’s Director of Administration and Finance, Abdulrazaq, thanked the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, and the department’s personnel for the opportunity to serve.
