President Muhammadu Buhari has joined the academic and medical communities in congratulating renowned Professor of Medicine Umaru Shehu on his 91st birthday, congratulating the scholar, researcher, and administrator on the achievement.
The President congratulated the professor on his many firsts in his chosen profession, which he practiced for more than six decades, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, on Wednesday in Abuja.
He mentioned that the professor had taken on a number of responsibilities at both the national and international levels to improve public health and education.
Buhari stated that the scholar spent his entire career bringing values to the country’s health system, serving as the first Head of Department of Community Medicine at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Shehu was also a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as well as the former Sole Administrator of the University of Maiduguri and the former Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University Kano and the University of Lagos.
The president wished the professor emeritus, who is also a former President of the Nigerian Academy of Science and a former President of Medical Schools in Africa, continued good health and strength as he turned another year older.
