Ferry service between mainland Greece and its islands is set to be suspended on Friday due to a labor dispute between service providers and ferry crews.
The ferry service may not resume operations for some time.
After pay negotiations between management and union leaders broke down, a spokesperson for the PNO union told Greek broadcasters on Thursday that the strike would begin at midnight (2200 GMT) on Thursday.
According to a PNO spokesperson, the strike would result in the suspension of all ferry services in the Aegean and Ionian seas.
Ferries play an important role in Greek transportation.
Many islands lack an airport and rely entirely on ferries for food, fuel, and medicine deliveries, as well as being an important means of transporting tourists to the islands.
