UN condemn attacks on peacekeepers in Mali, call for Government intervention

The United Nations Security Council have reacted to the series of attack suffered by the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali.

UN peacekeeping mission in Mali was rocked by an explosion in Bandiagara, central Mali.

The incident left seven Togolese blue helmets and one contractor from Mali while three others were seriously injured, the mission announced on its Twitter account.

UN Secretary-General’s spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, also confirmed that a peacekeeper from Egypt died on Monday after being injured in an attack in northern Mali last month.

Reacting to these incidents in a statement, members of the Security Council expressed their deepest condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families.

Condolences were also sent to Egypt, Mali, Togo and the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali.

The council members who wished everyone involved in the incident a speedy and full recovery called on the transitional government of Mali to investigate the attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.

Malian parties were also urged to fully implement the agreement on peace and reconciliation in the country without further delay.
