The Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) has promised that by the end of 2023, 75% of manufactured products in Enugu and Ebonyi State will be MANCAP certified.
A SON scheme, the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP), is intended to verify and certify the quality of all manufactured products made in the country. The product(s) is then given quality certification and a green eagle logo.
Malam Farouk Salim, Director-General of SON, stated this on Saturday in Enugu while presenting a MANCAP Certification to Chief Kelechi Orji, Chief Executive Officer of Roxettes Chemical Industries Ltd.
Salim, represented by Mr Francis Onyeji, SON Coordinator in charge of Ebonyi and Enugu States, stated that the agency is doing everything possible to ensure that manufactured products in the two states receive MANCAP certification to ensure consumer quality.
He advised Nigerians to look for the MANACP certified quality logo, which consists of a green eagle logo and a number, on any locally manufactured product they intend to purchase.
The director general explained that the green eagle logo and a number near it ensure that the product meets both local and international quality standards.
According to him, MANCAP certification is now critical for all manufacturers because the world has become a global village where product perception and acceptability are derived from standardisation.
“Any MANCAP certified product must have passed rigorous laboratory, perimeter, and international standardisation checks, as well as having the highest quality available in the country and on the international market.”
“As a result, SON is preparing all Nigerian manufactured products for competitive continental and global markets to ensure we get our fair share of the global market,” he explained.
Salim stated that SON would continue to raise awareness about the benefits of all products obtaining MANCAP certification, as well as conduct routine factory inspections to ensure that products are MANCAP certified and of high quality.
On Roxettes paints, he stated that each of the company’s various paint products had been subjected to 25 different laboratory analysis and perimeter tests.
“All 25 laboratory standard checks that informed the issuance of the MANCAP certification to Roxettes Chemical Industries Ltd were passed by the paint products from this factory,” he said.
In response, Orji stated that the company’s management and staff are pleased with the MANCAP certification and the confidence it will give its paint products in both domestic and international markets.
He revealed that the company’s paints are outstanding; they have the highest anti-fungal dosage; they are highly weather resistant; and they provide a wide coverage and spread on walls, allowing people to save money.
“Aside from knowing that your products are of high quality, it feels good and encouraging when a government agency like SON recognizes and attests to their quality through MANCAP certification among similar competing products in the market.”
“I will assure Nigerians that we will adhere to the standards on all of our products and deliver satisfactory products to all Nigerians, including those in continental and international markets,” he added.
