Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, Chief of Army Staff, has praised troops from the Artillery Corps and the Nigerian Army Training Centre for their tenacity in combating insecurity in Niger State.
Yahaya made the remark while speaking to troops from the two formations during his first operational visit to Nagwamatse Barracks in Kontagora, Niger State.
Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, stated in Abuja on Monday that Gen. Yahaya urged troops to remain steadfast and committed in carrying out their operational responsibilities.
He stated that the purpose of his visit was to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the situation at the location.
He expressed his appreciation for the troops’ positive attitude, urging them to keep up the current operational pace by building on previous successes.
Yahaya assured them that he placed a great value on the wellbeing of officers, soldiers, and their families and would not back down from immediately addressing their demands and concerns.
Separately, the Commander of the Corps of Artillery, Maj.-Gen. Taritimiye Gagariga, and the Commander of the Nigerian Army Training Centre, Maj.-Gen. Oluyinka Soyele, informed Gen. Yahaya that socioeconomic activities in Kontagora had been restored.
Gen. Yahaya reviewed recently acquired combat platforms and gave a Toyota Hilux truck to the Regimental Sergeant Major of Headquarters, Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery.
“It is in fulfillment of his pledge to boost troop morale and motivate senior non-commissioned officers in order to restore regimentation in the Nigerian Army,” said Gen. Nwachukwu.
