The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has entered into a cooperation with Egyptian startup e-Gate Egypt to digitally modernize logistics and last mile delivery chain services.
Dr. Ismail Adewusi, Postmaster-General (PMG) NIPOST, stated this in Abuja on Monday when the CEO of e-gate Egypt, Mr. Essam Alsaghir, visited NIPOST headquarters to finalize the partnership.
Last mile delivery refers to the movement of goods from a warehouse, shelf, or transport hub to their final delivery destination or the customer’s door step.
Adewusi, who stated that the collaboration would aid in the Agency’s infrastructure gaps, added that it would also aid in job creation.
According to the PMG, “the digital transformation of the post entails that the consumer may trace the passage of his letters and shipments from end to end.”
“I think it’s one area where we’ve really lacked a competitive edge.”
“The signing of this agreement will also help us contribute to President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s vision of lifting 100 million people out of poverty over the next ten years.”
He stated that the agreement would allow NIPOST to employ a large number of young people, thereby increasing job opportunities in the country.
Alsaghir stated that digitally transforming NIPOST operations would fundamentally change the way postal services were delivered in Nigeria.
“When the agreement is implemented, the entire mail delivery system will be automated with the help of a driver mobile application.” Customers can track the location of their packages using a mobile app.
“Our collaboration with NIPOST will provide our customers with new technology and a mobile app for a secure, easy, and faster way to reach their clients not only for postal service but also for other transactions,” Alsaghir explained.
He went on to say that the collaboration would help to create money-making opportunities for many Nigerians, particularly young people.
“It is a revenue-generating opportunity that will make use of citizens’ vehicles.” “Every citizen with a vehicle is now a potential Courier Agent for the POS and private business,” he explained.
The framework agreement aims to enable the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) and stakeholders to explore and implement business opportunities in registered communication and digital postal services.
