Man docked for allegedly stealing employer’s dry cell batteries

A 22-year-old man, Saviour Uwua, was on Tuesday docked in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for stealing employer’s batteries worth N1.2million.
The police charged Uwua, who resides in Ilupeju, with two counts of conspiracy and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Olasunkanmi Adejumola, told the court that the defendant and others, who are at large committed the offences on Oct. 19 at Oshodi, Lagos State,
He said that the defendant stole 12v 100ah dry batteries worth N1.2 million property of his employer, Mr Johnson Ogunlana.
Adejumola said that during questioning, the defendant admitted that he sold the batteries.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes two years’ jail term for stealing while section 411 attracts two years for conspiracy.
Magistrate O.A Odubajo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Odubajo ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government(LASG).
The magistrate adjourned the matter until Jan. 12 for hearing.
