Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced on Wednesday that he would appoint Prak Sokhonn, the country’s Foreign Minister, as the ASEAN chair’s new special envoy to Myanmar.
Cambodia will be the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) chair in 2022.
Sokhonn will take over as ASEAN’s special envoy from Brunei’s Second Foreign Minister, Erywan bin Pehin Yusof.
“I’d like to confirm that I will appoint Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn as ASEAN’s special envoy,” Hun Sen said.
The special envoy has been tasked with enforcing the five-point consensus on Myanmar reached by ASEAN’s leader in April.
Meanwhile,Hun Sen has announced that he will visit Myanmar on January 7 and 8, 2022.
As Cambodia chairs the ASEAN in 2022, it will do its best to promote ASEAN as a united family, he said.
Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, are ASEAN groups countries.
