Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), in a latest statement, has revealed some of its achievements in the last one year.
FERMA disclosed it rehabilitated the damaged portions of about seven federal roads, covering 315 kilometres in Bauchi State.
The was made public by the Maintenance Engineer of the agency in the state, Mr Nanfan Joroh, who revealed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the feat was achieved between December 2020 and December 2021.
According to Mr Joroh, the rehabilitation works involved pothole patching, repair of failed sections and pavement strengthening as well as the reinstatement of washout shoulders, culverts and bridges, among others.
He added that FERMA has also started the rehabilitation of the damaged portion of Bauchi-Plateau border road, covering 40 kilometres, stressing the project would soon be completed.
He explained that the nature of work on the road was removal of unsuitable materials like cotton soil, filter bed, repair of failed sections with boulders, stone base and sharp sand.
However, FRRMA appealed to the Bauchi state government to provide land for the agency to enable it establish a befitting field office accommodation to fast track and facilitate its operations.
According to Joroh, the national office of the agency has prompt response to emergencies and provision of necessary logistics for smooth operations in the state.
He, however, appealed for supply of additional operational vehicles to enable the agency to continue to perform optimally.
Joroh commended the security situation in Bauchi, saying that this had afforded FERMA the opportunity to operate unhindered.
