The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief supplies to victims of banditry in Isa Sabon Birni and other Sokoto State local government areas.
Mr Alhassan Nuhu, NEMA’s Director of Reliefs and Rehabilitation, stated that the items were immediate and interim relief to alleviate the victims’ hardship.
He expressed his concern about the incidents and urged communities and other stakeholders to be on the lookout at all times.
Food, bedding, and clothing were distributed, as well as 2,000 bags of rice, beans, and millet, 500 kegs of palm oil, 100 cartons of bathing soap, and 100 cartons of detergents.
Other items were 2,500 blankets, 2,500 mats and blankets, and plastic buckets.
Nuhu described the gesture as part of a series of aid to victims and praised President Muhammadu Buhari for his prompt response.
Alhaji Sa’idu Umar, Secretary to the Sokoto State Government, who received the items on behalf of Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, expressed gratitude and noted that the state government ensured routine support for banditry victims.
He thanked the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajia Sadiya Umar, and President Buhari for their assistance, and promised that the state government would devise appropriate distribution methods.
Alhaji Sa’idu Bargaja, the member representing Isa/Sabon Birni Federal Constituency, stated that his constituents were living in fear as a result of banditry, which had occurred several times.
Bargaja urged judicious distribution of the items and urged the government to provide more assistance in recognition of the large number of victims.
