UN to help Lebanon improve living conditions of women, children — Official

Lebanese President Michel Aoun

On Friday, Lebanon’s Presidency announced that the UN would enhance its funding for programs aimed at improving the living conditions of women and children.

Najat Maalla M’jid, the UN Secretary-Special General’s Representative on Violence Against Children, stated that she will meet with the Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs to find a common ground for the promotion, activation, and development of these programs.

The UN official made the remarks during a meeting with Lebanese President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace.

M’jid emphasized that her visit to Lebanon is intended to highlight the importance of strategies aimed at preventing violence and child labor, particularly during the COVID-19 outbreak, which has had a negative impact on economic conditions in all countries as well as the social lives of women and children.

Aoun urged the UN to continue its assistance to Lebanon in order for it to achieve its humanitarian goals of meeting the needs of both Lebanese and non-Lebanese on its territory.
