According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Kabba-Obajana-Lokoja road in Kogi is no longer congested.
Mr Solomon Agure, the corps’s state Sector Commander, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja on Saturday that motorists and commuters could now enjoy uninterrupted traffic flow.
“It’s true that there was a minor traffic jam on Obajana road between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, but our personnel were on top of the situation and cleared it in under 30 minutes.”
“There was a vehicle that broke down nearby, causing the highway to become congested.”
“However, traffic is flowing very well right now, with no obstructions.”
“The fact is that Obajana Road is a very busy highway due to the number of vehicles that use it as a gate way every minute.”
“As a result, if a vehicle breaks down, there will undoubtedly be a traffic jam in less than five minutes.”
“FRSC is aware of this challenge and has put measures in place to address it once it occurs,” he explained.
Agure also denied reports that Friday’s gridlock lasted approximately 12 hours before it was resolved.
“It took my men less than 30 minutes to clear the incident and allow traffic to flow freely on the road.”
“We are aware of the heavy traffic that will be on Obajana road as Christmas approaches, which is why we cleared the traffic quickly,” he said.
As a result, the sector commander urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and to drive cautiously in order to avoid accidents.
