Pastor Oloche Àdaji of the City of Refuge International Church on Sunday advised Christians against reckless celebration of Christmas.
He made this known while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Adaji admonished Christians to avoid sins while celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, noting that the day, which signified the birth of Christ, should be celebrated joyfully but with caution in order not to offend God.
He advised that the celebration should be solemn and should reflect on the real reason for Christmas “and not just eating and partying in the name of celebration.’’
According to him, this is not the time for sexual experimentation; it is not the time for clubbing and not the time for partying.
“Let us celebrate Christmas with great joy for it is the birth of our salvation that has brought grace to mankind.
“The season is all about showing love and making sacrifices for our neighbours and for the poor.
“My counsel to Christians is that the truth of the matter is that Christ is the reason for the season.
“Whatever celebration we want to have, we must keep right at the center of the celebration the reason for the season that is Jesus Christ,’’ he admonished.
According to Pastor Adaji, the ability to give in the present economic situation shows the extent to which one can sacrifice for Christ.
He stressed that unnecessary desperation that puts one at risk must be avoided this season and beyond.
“This is the time you see people drive carelessly because they want to meet targets; it is uncalled for; as we celebrate we must do everything to please God; everything must evolve around Christ.
“While eating and drinking and in celebration mood, do not forget the poor.
“It is a season of love; make sure you extend a hand of care to the under privileged ones around you to promote unity and peace in the country.
Pastor Adaji cleric also called on Nigerians to pray for an end to the many challenges confronting the country.
