The Somali National Army’s Special Forces (Danab) killed six al-Shabab militants during an operation in the southern region on Sunday, military officials confirmed on Monday.
SNA commanders who conducted the operation said State-owned Radio Mogadishu that the security forces who have increased their offensive against the terrorists have also demolished al-hideouts Shabab’s in the Lower Jubba region of Mayondo, Dhay, Abdi-Marodi, and Kubow.
“On Sunday, the SNA’s commandos (DANAB) killed six al-Shabab terrorists and destroyed their hideouts in planned security operations in Mayondo, Dhay, Abdi-Marodi, and Kubow in Lower Jubba,” the radio station reported.
The latest security operation comes as government forces in the central and southern regions ramp up operations against the terrorist group.
However, militants continue to control the rural areas of those regions, carrying out ambushes and planting landmines.
The SNA has vowed to continue the offensive against the militant group until their fighters are apprehended.
