APC CECPC’s decision to set up budget sub-committee backed by Campaign team

The Saliu Mustapha Campaign Organisation has applauded the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) resolution to establish a budget sub-committee and other relevant structures ahead of the party’s National Convention.

Mr Dapo Okubanjo, Head of the organization’s Media and Strategic Unit in Abuja, made the announcement in a statement.

According to the Organization, the APC CECPC’s decision was a positive development.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Salihu Mustapha is one of the APC’s frontline national chairmanship aspirants.

According to Okubanjo, the decision to form the committees demonstrated that the APC CECPC, led by Gov. Mai Mala Buni, was committed to the mandate given to it by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on June 25, 2020.

“We see the move as a sign that the CECPC is willing to ignore calls to postpone the convention and work in accordance with the majority of party stakeholders who are already preparing for February 2022.”

“We are looking forward to the committee designating the members of the budget subcommittee and other structures so that they can begin work in earnest and set a precise date for the convention,” he said.

Okubanjo advised the Buni-led committee to go a step further to prove their critics wrong by releasing the convention guidelines and establishing other sub-committees as soon as possible.

“This will go a long way toward putting to rest all sorts of speculation about the interim party executives’ intentions,” he said.

He also urged the APC CECPC to reject any proposals or suggestions that contradicted President Muhammadu Buhari’s clear position on the upcoming national convention.

According to NAN, President Buhari has given his approval for the APC national convention to take place in February 2022.

The members of the New National Working Committee (NWC) are expected to be elected at the national convention to steer the party’s affairs, which are currently managed by the CECPC.

Sen. James Akpankudohede, National Secretary APC CECPC, had previously announced the committee’s resolution to establish a budget sub-committee and other relevant structures in preparation for the party’s national convention.
