Mr Olusegun Onilude, Chairman of Badagry Local Government, says his administration will remain steadfastly committed to the development of women in the council area.
Onilude made the remarks during the third Badagry Women Symposium, which was held on Wednesday in Badagry by the council’s Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Department.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the event’s theme was “Family Values.”
According to him, empowering a woman today secures the entire family for a lifetime.
“The projection is the projection of values, and because women are the homemakers, they are the value projectors.”
“What we take home to build values desired by our society is determined by how we empower women,” he said.
According to Onilude, the symposium’s 2020 theme, “Women Beyond Today,” chronicled women’s indispensability in our today and tomorrow.
“I dare to say, without hesitation, no women, no tomorrow.” Women are the custodians of destiny, so when they are empowered, our future is secure.
“The change we seek begins not only with us, but with women,” he said.
Mrs Ramota Onilude, the symposium’s chairperson and the wife of the council chairman, also spoke and urged women to give their children quality attention.
According to her, parents should always ask questions to ensure that their children’s worldviews are healthy for the greater Badagry and Nigeria at large.
“A woman is at the heart of the family.” Women aren’t just productive; they’re also constructive.
“To be a woman is to be a catalyst of family values, and there are numerous ways to fulfill this mission,” she said.
Prof Basirat Oladipupo, the symposium’s Guest Speaker, stated that empowering women could benefit human development and society in general, not just in developing countries.
Oladipupo, a lecturer at Lagos State University’s Faculty of Education’s Department of Human Kinetic and Health Education, stated that in most parts of the world, women fulfill many traditional roles such as mothers and caregivers.
She urged women in Badagry to rise up and take on the political mantle of council leadership.
Oladipupo believes that women can do better in politics because they make up a sizable and necessary portion of the global population.
Mr Sejiro Asokere, Badagry Council Manager, praised individuals, organizations, and non-governmental organizations that donated various gifts for women in the area.
According to NAN, the women were given gifts such as grinding machines, sewing machines, fans, coolers, refrigerators, deep freezers, electric stoves, and other items through a raffle draw.
