On Tuesday, Nigeria recorded 2,123 new COVID-19 infections, the highest daily infection rate since the virus’s outbreak in February 2020.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the number of illnesses on Wednesday was 755 higher than the 1,368 infections registered on Tuesday.
NAN reports also that it was the first time Nigeria was experiencing a sky rocketing of its daily difference in new infections.
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Lagos State, the country’s epicenter of the infection, led the new infections table on Tuesday with 1,552 cases.
It was followed by the FCT, which had 197 infections, and Edo, which had 155 infections.
Rivers had 81 cases, followed by Delta (44), Plateau (33), Kwara (30), Kano (16), Enugu (12), Gombe (2), and Bauchi (2). (1).
According to the NCDC, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Nigeria as of Wednesday was 12,547.
This represents a 3,039 increase over the previous active case count of 9,508 cases.
It also stated that four new COVID-19 deaths were reported on Tuesday, bringing the total death toll to 2,989 from 2,985.
Nigeria’s infection rate now stands at 227,378 as of Wednesday.
There were 211,761 COVID-19 recoveries and 2,989 COVID-19 fatalities.
According to the NCDC, Nigeria has tested 3,751,696 samples since the outbreak began.
