An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 30-year-old man, Adewale Tunde, in a Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl.
The Magistrate, Mrs Franca Olaiya, who did not take the plea of Tunde ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Olaiya adjourned the case to Dec. 29, for the DPP’s advice as the defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for rape.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Olumide Bamigbade, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 17, at Ado-Ekiti.
Bamigbade said that the defendant defiled his neighbour’s daughter noting that the offence contravened Section 31 of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
In another development, the Court also remanded a 25-year-old man, Anthony Peter, in a Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl.
The Magistrate, Mrs Franca Olaiya, who did not take the plea of Peter remanded him, pending a legal advice from the DPP.
Olaiya adjourned the case until Dec. 29, for mention
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of rape.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Elijah Adejare, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec.17 in Ado-Ekiti.
Adejare said that the defendant had canal knowledge of the 16-year-old girl without her consent noting that the offence contravened Section 31 of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
