Director of the Makolo Anthony Empowerment Foundation (MAEF), Mr Anthony Makolo, on Wednesday, harped on the need for effective justice delivery in 2022.
Makolo, Lagos based constitutional lawyer, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) while speaking on his expectations for the new legal year.
According to him, as the new legal year approaches for the Nigerian judiciary, adequate measures must be taken to ensure a seamless justice process devoid of frivolous adjournments.
“In the new legal year, the foremost expectation of all lawyers is for the judiciary to seek to dispense justice as quickly as possible.
“To ensure that the legal system yields this desired results, it is first important that only qualified legal practitioners, who have distinguished themselves at the bar, are appointed to the bench.
“The judiciary must also fight and strive to nip corruption in the bud, so that its impact as administrators of justice can be better felt,” he said
Makolo also emphasised the need for lawyers to shun technicalities in court proceedings, and desist from seeking frivolous adjournments aimed at distorting justice.
“Frivolous applications coming from lawyers should be set aside by the court, so as to make progress especially in criminal matters; otherwise, this will cause a continuous delay in proceedings.
“The Administration of Criminal Justice Act already serves as a guideline for the court in criminal matters, so, any attempt to clog the wheels of Justice must not be allowed,” he said
