Mr Kennedy Ibeh, the Speaker of the Imo House of Assembly, has donated his entire salary to the six All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Leaders in the six local governments in Imo North senatorial district.
The directive was issued by the speaker in a letter addressed to the Clerk of the House, a copy of which was obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri on Wednesday.
The APC Youth Leaders in Obowo, Ihite-Uboma, Ehime-Mbano, Isiala-Mbano, Onuimo, and Okigwe local governments are among those who will benefit.
In a statement to party stakeholders, Ibeh stated that the move was in fulfillment of his promise to the party.
“I’m a party man; I believe in the APC; I believe in raising the youths and keeping our party alive.”
“This is one of the ways I can demonstrate thanks and support for Gov. Hope Uzodimma and his ‘3R’ agenda; I believe this will go a long way in increasing support for the governor,” he added.
He stated that the new assembly leadership came on board with a new attitude of sacrifice, and that he would devise other ways to extend the gesture to other party faithful.
Ibeh thanked the Deputy Speaker, Amara Iwuanyawu, for his “huge support,” while also promising to always work in tandem with the executive branch for better legislative activities.
In a brief reaction, the state APC Chairman, MacDonald Ebere, praised the speaker for making the enormous sacrifice of donating his salary to party loyalists.
He claimed that the speaker’s gesture set a new political record in Imo.
“You are the best thing that has ever happened to our party in recent times; you have demonstrated great capability since being elected leader of the house; the government is pleased with you; the party is proud of you,” he said.
